Is Ohio State Football at the Pinnacle of the NCAA?
Here up north, when a discussion of college football comes up, there is only one team that always comes to mind. The Ohio State Buckeyes.
Their success over the last couple of years include two straight BCS Championship games, two Big Ten titles, and a Heisman Trophy winner to boot.
Looking through all the NCAA Football teams, no team has accomplished what OSU has.
This team has seen seven national championships, and 33 Big Ten titles. Since the OSU football program began, they have been a force to be reckoned with, bringing in seven Heisman Trophies, two belonging to the only two-time winner the prestigious award. And going into this season, there still seems to be haters.
With this team accomplishing all they have done over the past five years, there is no one that can argue the fact that Ohio State is at the top of the pinnacle of the NCAA Football.
With a team full of returning starters and plenty of up and coming young talent, the OSU football program is, in my opinion, the only football team with a real chance of going undefeated in the regular season.
With a team led by junior tailback Chris "Beanie" Wells, a returning experienced quarterback in Todd Boeckman, and a flurry of talented receivers, the offense should have no problem putting up points every week.
With seniors James Laurinaitis and Malcolm Jenkins returning for a final year and for a final chance at a BCS title, they look to run a great defense—a defense which last year ranked first in almost every category.
This defense made good teams look mediocre and with players like Cameron Heyward and Lawrence Wilson, who is coming back from a broken leg, the defensive line is looking good. Also looking good, are the chances that Chris Wells will be the seventh Buckeye to win the Heisman Trophy and Todd Boeckman to show senior leadership in showing freshman quarterback Terrelle Pryor the ropes.
You can't find another team that looks this good on paper.
And with a season kicking off on Saturday, they will look to start off on a good foot with Todd Boeckman sharing snaps with Terelle Pryor. So look for a 2006 Florida-looking offense for this weekend.
With all the talent, with all the pressure on a third consecutive BCS title game appearance, and with all the media pressure, look for the OSU football team to come out of the gates fast and hungry for a third title game, and expect for them to take it all the way this season.
