SEC Community Leader Extra: Preseason Power Rankings for the SEC

Justin HokansonAug 29, 2008

This is the first of a weekly installment of SEC Power Rankings. This ranking is put together by the Community Leaders of the SEC here at Bleacher Report.

New rankings will come out on Monday.

1. Points: 84

The Bulldogs start out at number one, but offseason issues such as arrests and injuries aren't the way to start off a national championship run.

2. Points: 74

Florida enters as the lower ranked team in the East, even though they were picked to win the East by the media. Can Tebow repeat as Heisman winner?

3. Points: 68

Many have written off the LSU Tigers without Ryan Perriloux, but there is more than enough talent on that team to make up for an average quarterback.

4. Points: 66

Auburn was the media pick to win the West, but like LSU, they have to find a quarterback. The schedule is favorable with key big games at home.

5. Points: 52

The Vols also have a new quarterback, but Jonathan Crompton has experience and the Vols are the defending East division champion.

6. Points: 49

The Crimson Tide are starting to turn it around with Nick Saban, the highly touted freshman class should have a big impact on the success of this team.

7. Points: 45

Steve Spurrier is starting to feel the heat in Columbia, the Gamecocks have a solid team this year, but can they ever get past Florida and Georgia?

8. Points: 36

Sly Croom took the Bulldogs to their first bowl game in years last season, but they caught some breaks to get to 6 wins. Need to develop a passing game this season to get back to a bowl game.

9. Points: 26

The Rebels welcome in new coach Houston Nutt, former coach at Arkansas. Nutt inherits a team that was winless in the SEC last season, but there are some some bowl hopes with new quarterback Jevan Snead and freshman running back Enrique Davis coming in.

10. Points: 17

Kentucky is coming off a great season and was one of the real surprise teams last season. Andre Woodson and Keenan Burton are gone, the Wildcats need to find a quarterback and some new playmakers to make another bowl game.

11. Points: 16

The Hogs welcome in new coach Bobby Petrino and his new offense. With McFadden and Jones gone, quarterback Casey Dick has to come through in the new offense that will call upon him to be a better passer.

12. Points: 13

The Commodores come in at the bottom of the SEC rankings once again. Bobby Johnson seems to be given a free pass every year, but at what point do you have to show signs of life in your football program?
