WWE Survivor Series Preview: 10 Reasons Randy Orton Will Beat Wade Barrett

Buzz M.Nov 20, 2010

Hello, B/R members, I'm back with another slideshow.

Survivor Series is getting close and until now, people seem to have mixed feelings about the buildup towards this pay-per-view. I can't really blame them here because this PPV is considered as WWE's flagship PPV alongside Summerslam, Royal Rumble and Wrestlemania.

Every year, we used to have numerous traditional tag-team elimination matches that were considered the main parts of this show. However, only one similar match is booked for this year's PPV, and it's not a major part of the event.

Arguably, Randy Orton vs. Wade Barret for the WWE Championship match might be the most significant match of this PPV. However, the reason for this isn't because we're interested to know who the winner will be. It's simply because we're all waiting to know the fate of John Cena after the end of this bout.

Cena will be the special guest referee and we all know the stipulations for this match.

If Orton wins, Cena will be fired.

If Barret wins, Cena will be free from Nexus.

Furthermore, we have additional stipulations added to the match.

Nexus are banned from ringside.

The match should only end via pin-fall or submission which means that there are no disqualifications and no count-outs.

Until now, I noticed that all predictions are on Barret's side.

I guess it's easy to mention numerous reasons why Barret can win. We have the bigger picture he talked about, Cena helping him so he can keep his job, and many other factors.

Therefore, I decided to choose the other side and try to breakdown 10 reasons why Randy Orton might win this match and retain the WWE Championship belt.

All said and done, let the show begin.

1. Nexus Members Are Banned from Ringside

1 of 11

That's a simple reason that will sure benefit Randy Orton.

The arm-banded group showed on numerous occasions how essential they can be in Wade Barret's matches and segments. However, Barrett will have to fight alone this time.

Now I'm sure many people think that Barrett definitely has other plans in his mind and I can't disagree with them.

He was able to find a loophole in his match against John Cena at Hell in a Cell (that had a similar stipulation) when Husky Harris and Michael McGillicutty interfered in the match and helped him earn the victory.

The black and yellow garbed members could have other duties to do, too.

Anyway, regardless of all the possibilities, I'm trying to mention 10 reasons why Randy Orton has the edge. And Having Nexus members banned from ringside is definitely an advantage on his side.

2. John Cena Will Call the Match Cleanly Regardless of the Outcome

2 of 11

I guess it's another simple and easy reason to agree with.

We're all familiar with Cena's character, and I'm sure you all agree with the fact that Cena will be calling the match cleanly even though the result might lead to his departure.

He'll try his best to prevent any outside interference or any kind of under-handed tactics that Barrett might use.

We've seen him in the past RAW episodes where he called matches cleanly as a referee with no controversial decisions.

I'm sure that most of the readers are shaking their heads and asking, "How will this help Orton?"

Well, Barrett seems to be depending on Cena in this match, and he even added the stipulations to gain advantage heading into the event. However, if the reluctant Nexus member calls the match cleanly without caring for the stipulations, then Barrett will not benefit from all this. Furthermore, the tensions between the two might benefit Orton.

The Viper clearly had the momentum on his side on several occasions, and if the match is booked cleanly, this will sure be an advantage for Orton and not Barrett.

Let's face it, Cena has that good-guy character and it's difficult to see him drop it in one night. He said himself, "No matter what the consequences are, I'm gonna call the match down the middle." Remember, it's all about hustle, loyalty and respect.

3. If Barrett Wins, We Might Go Back to the Same Stories

3 of 11

Now don't get me wrong, but this seems obvious.

Let's think about it for a while.

We should all agree by now that a heel turn by Cena (if available) won't be occurring during his time with Nexus. If anybody still thinks he'll turn heel, then I say keep dreaming (you might get it though).

I said it before and I'll say it again for the hundredth time, a heel turn should be logical and not just a rushed turn.

Ever since Cena joined Nexus, the direction of the story became more obvious week after week. I guess we all knew it will be going this way.

Cena was just the helpless and reluctant member doing things against his will. Now he has the chance to be free from Nexus if Barrett wins the match and WWE Championship belt.

However, what would happen if Barrett wins?

The first thing that comes to my mind is Cena going back to feud against Nexus and their leader since he will be seeking revenge for the way he was treated when he was part of the stable.

Do you want to see Cena vs. Nexus again?

The second feud that might come to our mind is Cena vs. Orton. The Viper will sure look forward to punish Cena because he'll definitely think that the special guest referee wasn't a fair official.

I'll ask the same question again, do you want to see Cena vs. Orton again?

4. Having Cena Fired Could Be Refreshing for His Character

4 of 11

Let's be honest here, we all know that Cena won't be really fired if this happens. It will only be a worked segment.

No matter what happens later, but having Cena fired will sure be something refreshing. It will be interesting to watch the fans reactions towards this. Those reactions could be taken into consideration for any future plan.

Many people wanted to see changes in Cena's character. Many people wanted to see Cena turn heel. I guess that the best way to see such changes is by having him leave for a while.

Furthermore, we might not see the same feuds if this happens. Think about it for a while.

If Barrett loses, Cena will be more than happy to see him lose and this will be enough for him. As for Orton, he won't be caring for Cena if he wins, and this will sure end any possible feud they could be involved in if Viper loses.

I was among the people who never expected to witness a heel turn by Cena since his feud with Nexus started.

However, if he gets fired, I would be one of the few people to expect a heel turn when he returns.

I think that there's more money for WWE in this story.

We've seen Cena take some time off before before making a surprise return, but that was due to injury. It will be more refreshing to see a surprise appearance after a dismissal.

Of course, those are only predictions and everything I wrote could just be dreams.

5. The Rebellion of Current Nexus Members

5 of 11

Nexus are banned from ringside so they can't interfere and help their leader win. But what if they decided to rebel against him instead?

It's obvious that David Otunga is already not satisfied about his current status in Nexus.

Week after week, the relation between the "A-list" superstar and Wade Barrett was only getting worse.

Otunga was clearly screwed on numerous occasions and he was on the edge of being fired last week. I guess he reached the level where anybody should be already fed up with this bullying.

With this said, Otunga might try to find a way to cost the Nexus leader the match.

He might do this alone, or he could even encourage his other fellow Nexus members to do the same. I guess it might be hard for him to convince them, but if he does, then Wade Barrett will be in trouble.

But the problem is that they're banned from ringside, so they still can't interfere.

However, remember that Nexus members Health Slater and Justin Gabriel have a match against Vladimir Kozlov and Santino Marella for the WWE Tag Team Titles prior to the WWE Title match. This match could witness some controversy that might lead to Otunga being fired.

If Otunga gets fired, he won't be part of Nexus anymore and this will be easy for him to interfere against Barrett for revenge. He might even do this to make sure Cena gets fired since he's not on good terms with his helpless mate too.

Anyway, David Otunga might not be the only one looking for revenge. We might have other interested people too, and we'll learn more about them in the next slide.

6. Former Nexus Members Might Seek Revenge

6 of 11

Remember those three guys? They were part of Nexus a few months ago. Could it be possible to see them return and cost their former leader the match?

Darren Young returned several months ago, but he never made an impact and it's hard to believe that he might do anything now because he had the chance before.

Skip Sheffield was injured directly after Summerslam. A few days ago, I read some news saying that he was officially dropped from Nexus. As for Michael Tarver, we all know how Barrett fired him after suffering a brutal attack by Cena.

There are still no specific dates for their returns, but anyone of them could make a surprise appearance at Survivor Series and cost Barrett the match as part of revenge.

7. The Involvement of R-Truth or Other Superstars Who Want Cena Fired

7 of 11

For weeks, R-Truth made it clear to the world that he's not on good terms with John Cena. He even tried to convince Randy Orton that the new Nexus member is a trouble and should be taken out.

With this said, I guess that Truth obviously wishes to see Cena fired. Will it be possible to see him involved in the match to make sure this happens?

What if other superstars showed their interest in watching Cena leave and decided to interfere and ensure this?

I won't read into this a lot, but having a stipulation that can lead to the expulsion of Cena might spark interest among some WWE superstars who are just fed up with him.

8. The Viper Has the Momentum on His Side and He Can Make Sure He Doesn't Lose

8 of 11

Let's forget about Barrett, Cena, Otunga and R-Truth, and just focus on the WWE champion himself.

The Viper is known as a superstar who talks little and acts more. Of course, we all know that actions speak louder than words.

For weeks, Randy Orton has been watching the Nexus and their leader quarrel with their new mate, and even adding stipulations to his title matches without him being involved in them.

However, he showed on numerous occasions that he's ready to do anything to keep his title. We saw how close he was to hitting Cena with the punt. He even said it himself that he doesn't care what happens to Nexus or Cena, the only thing he cares for is his title.

I guess it's fair to say that he never lost momentum ever since he won the WWE Championship. I know that he was attacked on numerous occasions, but he was still able to retaliate and go on.

With this said, expect Orton to be a ruthless and fierce competitor during the match, and don't think he'll just agree to take a backseat and watch himself being screwed due to certain stipulations.

I won't be surprised to see some superstars being hit with the punt during the bout.

9. The Age of Orton Needs to Be Longer

9 of 11

Ever since Randy Orton won the WWE Title, people has been calling him the new face of WWE. People even called this era as the "Age of Orton" as soon as he grabbed his seventh World Champioship belt.

The Viper has been holding the title for two months now, and I think this period is still too short to be called an "Era" or an "Age."

Moreover, after Orton's win against Sheamus at Hell in a Cell, he took a backseat to Cena-Nexus storyline. He involuntarily became a sidekick of another feud that had superstars booking his matches and their stipulations.

However, as I said in the previous slide, Orton said that he cared for nothing other than keeping the title.

Anyway, whether you like him or not, Orton seems to be in his best shape right now, and I guess that this is the best moment for him to have a long reign.

If his fans want to call this era as the "Age of Orton" then the Viper needs to end this feud and keep the title for a longer time or else it will end up as the "Age of Nexus."

10. A Ploy?

10 of 11

This might sound a bit crazy but I decided to throw it here because I don't want to have repetitive reasons.

Yes, Cena can simply fool Barrett and screw him via several ways.

If I put those ways in more than one slide, I'll end up creating a conspiracy theory slideshow. Therefore, I decided to put them all in one slide as a reason that can help Randy Orton win the match.

Cena can favor Barrett during the match and once it ends he'll be free. But then he can restart the match and make Barrett lose. This sounds crazy so I'll move to the second idea.

Cena would have predetermined plans heading into the match. Those plans could be discussed beforehand with none other than the anonymous RAW GM. Cena might learn that Barrett cannot fire him before the match which might make him happily cost his leader the match. The GM might even make an appearance and announce this after the match before Barrett says anything. Will it be HHH?

Cena can even plan things with David Otunga prior to the match and work against their leader.

Or Cena could just cost Barrett the match himself regardless of the stipulation. He'll just do this for the sake of revenge.

I'll stop here and won't go on reading into things. I guess you all dig what I'm trying to say. Cena might screw Barrett either by finding a certain loophole or just for vengeance.

This will sure be an advantage on Orton's side.

Final Thoughts: What Do You Think?

11 of 11

As we all know, the match can go either way. I only tried to show that Randy Orton does have some reasons that could make him retain his WWE Title.

So, what do you think? Will Orton retain the title? Will John Cena be fired? For how long? Do you think that Orton has no chance to win? Do you think Wade Barrett will win? Why?

I'll be glad to read your comments and thoughts.
