What do you get when you put the "baddest man on the planet" and the "world's most dangerous man" in the same cage together?
An epic showdown between two of the greatest mixed martial arts fighters today. A knock down, drag out, bloody mess of MMA eye candy. A fight for the ages, right? Wrong.
Put a tent over the Bank Atlantic Center in Sunrise, FL on October fourth, 2008 for the EliteXC event and you have a circus. All that is missing now are trapeze artists, a couple unicycles, and a bearded lady.
October fourth will indeed be the night that Kimbo Slice (3 - 0) and Ken Shamrock (26 - 13 - 2) lock horns for a main event showdown. The winner will get a victory bonus and a lifetime supply of peanuts.
Kimbo is EliteXC's golden boy. He is the face of their organization and the main cog in their marketing campaign.
He is coming off three straight victories to start his MMA career against Bo Cantrell, Tank Abbott, and James Thompson.
Shamrock, on the other hand, is a veteran of the fight game and an MMA icon in a past lifetime. Currently he is 44 years old and has lost eight of his last ten fights including his last five. Calling him washed up is probably an understatement.

Brilliant. Loved the article.

Appreciate it. Usually I stay away from these types of news events but I had to get my two cents in on this one. It was eating at me.

Shenanigans is a good word to sum Elite XC's productions. It is truly make i or break it time and they are out on the proverbial limb. Of course I will be watching but with that sort of watching a train wreck type curiosity. I will be looking for the trapeze, beared lady and magician to see if they can pull this off. Great article. ***** and POTD

I'll be watching as well and hoping that shamrock pulls it off...
When backed into a corner financially the UFC came up with TUF which was the best decision they've ever made and it essentially saved the company. EliteXC, on the other hand, seems to be buckling under the pressure.

The" baddest man on the planet?" I really hope thats not what people are referring Kimbo to these days. Great article. I think Kimbo should still be fed lower level fighters due to the fact that he is so new to MMA still, but he's become so popular now as this badass unstoppable fighter to so many casual MMA fans that I think he needs to step up and fight someone better like Brock has, although it wouldn't matter because all these guys that think Kimbo is the best probably wouldn't even know who a top level fighter is if they were to get one to fight Kimbo. I also don't think that Ken should still be fighting, I hate seeing the guy lose.

That is fine if they want to force feed him cupcakes for a while while he gets his feet wet in MMA. Just don't market him like he's the best thing ever created. Promote shields and lawler instead.

Good article. Thinking you for mentioning the Lawler fight. This should be the main focus for EliteXC and until now no one has even mentioned it. This is the main fight I am waiting for. But then again I didn't just start watching MMA. I have been a fan sense the beginning.
One more thing, I am a Shamrock fan so he needs to really kick some ass when steps in the cage with Kimbo. I don't mined the hype around Kimbo, it is funny to me how a lot of people have jumped on to that band wagon, but it is unjustified to give him so much credit.

I will be pulling for shamrock to win but I really don't know what to expect from him anymore. I just want to see this whole kimbo spectacle blow up in EliteXC's face.

shamrock has lost his last 5 fights. nothing will change against kimbo.

You're probably right. All they want to be able to do is to say a name that kimbo has defeated and have it ring a bell with casual MMA fans going forward when they market him. Now it will be "watch kimbo in his next fight against so and so, he's coming off a knockout victory over a UFC hall of famer, blah blah blah."

What a repugnant thought, and one I hadn't considered.

You're definitely on the mark and it's absolutely horrible. Damn Shamrock better still have it in him. I've never been his biggest fan but I think he must at least have the tools to beat Kimbo Slice.
