Brock Lesnar Should Fight Minotauro Nogueira

Tim McTiernanNov 16, 2010

I figured that I would add my own article to the speculation surrounding who Brock Lesnar should fight next.

I've seen articles about a Frank Mir trilogy, which I am totally against.

I've seen articles about Roy Nelson, and I'm sure that would be good, but Nelson appears to be in the middle of a contract dispute with some small organization.

A Carwin rematch would be plausible, but I think Lesnar should get a challenge from someone who he hasn't fought before.

A Nogueira fight would be pretty awesome, and now I'll tell you why.

Timing

Big Nog pulled out of his last fight, which was supposed to be at UFC 119, because he needed to have knee surgery.

According to mmaresolutions.com Nogueira is expected to be out until after the New Year (UFC 125) and Lesnar has also been taking some time off, doing some hunting and things like that, and hasn't talked to Dana since 121.

I think you could put this fight on UFC 128, which is being reported will be on March 19, 2011.

Makes Sense

Lesnar is coming off a loss to Velasquez, as is Big Nog.

Both fighters need a win if they want any chance at getting a title shot anytime soon.

Big Nog was due to fight at 119 against Frank Mir, and right now, Lesnar and Mir are in the same type of situation, they both need a good win if they want their title shot.

Big Nog is 1-2 in his last 3 fights, and a Lesnar fight would gauge where Big Nog is in his career, and we would all be able to see if Lesnar was a one trick pony because...

Lesnar Would Have To Learn How To Strike

...or something like this would happen again.

Big Nog is a black belt in BJJ and if Lesnar were to take him down, Nogueira has a very dangerous guard, and you could pretty much count on a triangle, or a kimura, or something like that.

Lesnar would be the better wrestler, but Nogueira would be able to finish Lesnar from his back. Two years ago, I would have said Nogueira had the best chin in all of mixed martial arts, but after being TKOd by Frank Mir and KOd by Velasquez, his chin has become suspect.

Maybe it has taken so much punishment that it is finally screwing him over. Lesnar would have to keep this one on the feet and he would have to learn to strike.
