Jericho Scott: Enough is Enough

As I sit here trying to relax after a long day I turn on my TV to ESPN hoping to catch some baseball highlights. Well I find baseball alright excepts it is yet another Jericho Scott update.

Now if you haven't heard or been following this story this 9 year old boy and his parents are upset because he isn't allowed to play in what seems to be a beginner's league becaus he throws 40 mph and is "too good."

They have filled tons of lawsuits and find themselves in the middle of the sport's world on the eve of the college football season.

I for one am tired and could care less about this pointless irrelevant story that I can't seem to understand why anyone cares. "Oh but Scott it's awful they won't let him pitch because he is too good." No, its awful that his parents are so stubborn and the media gives these people and story so much attention (I know the irony that I am in fact writing about it). 

The fact is the league offered to move him up to a higher league where he will face better competition. He already pitches on a traveling team and is not even one of their three best players. So how can the parents make the argument that he can't play because he is "too good." If he is so good he would play at a higher level and his parents would want him to. He's not going to get any better dominating kids who are playing the first time without tees.

This same thing happened when I was playing little league. *Prepare for flashback and glory stories.....luckily I wasn't that good so there aren't many* Anyways we had kids come in blow us all away and they would have to be put on a travel team. The reason is baseball for some kids is just suppose to be fun and to learn, neither can be accomplished when someone is head and shoulders above you.

So for all those who say "LET JERICHO PLAY!" Yes let him play but in the appropriate league and against the appropriate competition.
