Jacksonville Jaguars: 2011 NFL Draft Prospects

It may be a little early to be looking at next year's draft, especially when the team is in the middle of a playoff run.
The reason why I believe it is safe to be looking this early is because this next draft may be the most important draft for the Jaguars' foreseeable future.
Why? Because this looks to be the draft where Jacksonville sees a lot of talent at the quarterback position and may take their franchise quarterback.
The 2011 NFL looks to have up to four possible quarterbacks that may turn into quality NFL starters. Leading the way is Stanford's Andrew Luck.
Luck will be gone if he leaves school early, and looks to be headed to Buffalo with the first overall pick in the draft. It just seems like a match made in heaven.
After Luck, there are a few guys that are currently having their stock go up and down on a weekly basis and may get the look from Jacksonville come draft day:
1. Jake Locker QB/Washington
Locker has what you look for in a NFL quarterback, but has yet to prove that he is a consistent threat in college football.
How does that translate into the NFL? If the Jaguars have a mid to late first-round draft pick, Locker could be a steal.
However, Locker could see his stock fall horribly if he does not improve drastically in the next few months.
2. Prince Amukamara CB/Nebraska
It's obvious the Jaguars' biggest current weakness is in their defensive secondary.
There aren't going to be any Eric Berry's in the 2011 draft, but Amukamara is an incredibly corner who could play free safety. Patrick Peterson of LSU would be an incredible player to add to the Jaguars roster, but I don't believe he will last past pick No. 5.
3. Ryan Mallett QB/Arkansas
Mallett is another quarterback who is going to see his stock soar both up and down between now and next April.
He will more than likely go in the first round. If the Jaguars fall in love with him, he could be their guy.
Another player who has to improve his play drastically in he next few months.
4. Da'Quan Bowers DE/Clemson
Probably won't last until the Jaguars pick, but is the best defensive end coming out.
A monster at 6'4", 285 pounds, Bowers would compliment Kampman beautifully and would really make this defensive front something special.
5. Robert Quinn DE/UNC
A player who could see his stock fall drastically because of his current off-the-field problems.
Quinn is a freakish athlete who could reign havoc on quarterbacks with his size and speed. Not a guy I would take a chance on in the early part of the first round, but if he fell to the mid-late first round, I would definitely take a chance.
Currently, those are the top five prospects that the Jaguars may have on their radar. Five other guys that may catch Gene Smith's eye include: Christian Ponder QB/FSU, Adrian Clayborn DE/Iowa, Janoris Jenkins CB/Florida, Rahim Moore S/UCLA, AJ Green WR/Georgia.
Still plenty of time remaining between now and the 2011 NFL Draft. With any luck, Jacksonville will not be picking until very late in the first round, and it all starts this week against Houston.
