The end of the transfer market is nearing closer with every ticking second and Manchester United are yet to come to an agreement with Tottenham for Dimitar Berbatov.

Sir Alex Ferguson has openly expressed his interest in the player and is reported to have already tabled a bid of around £20 million, which Tottenham rejected.

Manchester United have only scored twice in its opening two games of the season, with both goals coming from an unlikely source, Darren Fletcher. United have only been able to find the net twice in the last 360 minutes of play (including preseason) and are lacking the cutting edge up front which is a trademark of the European champions.

Sir Alex is keen to bolster his squad by adding a striker to his ranks and has been eager to bring Berbatov to Old Trafford. The Bulgarian would be a great addition to Ferguson’s side. However, Tottenham are refusing to sell for less than £30 million, a fee Manchester United are indifferent in agreeing to.

If Tottenham don’t sell Berbatov before the end of the transfer market, everybody involved in this whole ordeal won’t be gaining anything. There are no winners if things stay the way they are.

Tottenham are clearly unhappy with Berbatov’s attitude and appear happy to let the former Bayer Leverkusen striker rot in the reserves. Tottenham will gain absolutely nothing if they do this, and neither will Berbatov. A player of his caliber will learn and achieve absolutely nothing from training with the reserves and playing for Tottenham’s second string.

‘Let him rot in the reserves’ seems to be the popular plea around White Hart Lane, but if you think about it, it really isn’t a very sensible thing to do. Berbatov is obviously affecting the team’s chemistry and, whether he plays or not, will continue to affect the team’s morale if he is still lurking in the background at Tottenham.

After capturing Roman Pavlyuchenko from Zenit St. Petersburg, Tottenham’s need for Berbatov will decrease even more. It would also be pointless for a club to keep a player in the reserves when instead they could be gaining over £20 million for him.

Manchester United will also wind up on the losing end of the deal if they aren’t able to meet Spurs’ asking price of £30 million. It may be a hefty cost to pay for a player, but not signing Berbatov could prove even more costly for Manchester United. An abundance of talent is clearly visible in United’s ranks, but they still lack a potent finisher, especially with the absence of Cristiano Ronaldo and Louis Saha.

  1. I may badger on about Huntelaar, but I am a United supporter, and if we have to settle for Berba, then I will. Still would prefer the dutch hitman though.

  2. He would've been great too. But I have my doubts as to whether United will sign him, as great as a player as he is. What's the price tag Ajax slapped on him?

  3. I think Huntelaar has signed a new contract at Ajax, and been made captain in order to keep him there. Can't see him moving until next summer.

As for Berba, just the man we need.

  4. I agree Chris. He could be vital.

  5. I think it is inevitable Berbastrop will end up at Old Trafford, after all he is clearly unsettled by the interest from Man Utd in the same way Ronaldo was distracted by Real Madrid.

  6. Hunterlaar better, Berbatov good. Just get the deal over with!

  7. have a feeling huntelaar would be a better player, hes younger and arguably of the same skill and talent, see him being another van nisterooy or dennis bergkamp.

  8. All you guys who say Huntelaar is better than Berba clearly must be delusional. Excuse me but Berba is a proven goalscorer in ENGLAND,not in the inferior dutch leaugue,he also has 41 goals for Bulgaria,as shitty a team they've been in recent years. Not to mention his assists, vision, link up play ,world class first touch ,control and technique.Don't forget that more often than not he had to play as a playmaker in tottenham, dropping way back in midfield, organising every Tottenham attack and still managed to score 23 goals and have near the same amount of assists.Bottom line is Berba is World Class ,whereas the dutch kid hasn't been tested at the highest forum yet,and although he may be promising he's no where near the established ,madly skilled striker Berbatov is.Wait till you see him at United.

P.S.Do you guys seriously beeive SAF would overlook Huntelaar .Trust me he's well aware of the kid he just knows Klaas is not what United need,or perhaps you guys are more credible experts than sir Alex?

  9. Hence the title of my article. I've always held the belief that Huntelaar is a great player. He's got great aerial ability and is a goal scoring machine... in the Dutch league. I've been impressed with Berbatov ever since he moved to England and every time i watch him play my opinion of him only gets better. But Sir Alex obviously knows better than any of us so i'll leave it to him to do what's best for United... he always and he will continue to do so, whether he buys Berbatov OR Huntelaar.

  10. Bravo Peter! Berbatov is world class - this is not debatable! If the Hunter was that good he should have featured prominently in the Dutch line up at Euros, but instead our 'reject' Van eclipsed him. He might be 24 but Kleberson was equally young and talented but failed to make the grade in the English game, but Berba is tried and tested in England. There is no room for nostalgia, and besides The Hunter is not the young Van Nisterlroy lest you get carried away.

If there is anyone who already knows the jersey number we will give Berba when he signs on Sunday please let me know, i might as well look for it right away. There is no harm in exercising ones faith hey?

    Warren
    Vic.

    1. I believe its 14 mate

  11. Good point warren. If, and I say IF United do sign Berbatov he'll probably be #14. But don't get carried away!! Ferguson said he's not too optimistic about signing him anymore so he may end up staying at Tottenham, which would cause a lot of issues for everybody. I'd put a hold on that jersey if i were you...

  12. Berba got 23 goals as a first team regular last season so does that mean if he comes to United Rooney or Tevez lose a place in order for him to fulfill his potential?

I also think that Berba actually plays very similarly to Rooney, dropping deep off the frontman to receive the ball and playing off midfielders before charging into the area to apply the finish.

I know he's a class player but for some reason there's something in me that's yet to be convinced he's absolutely right for us. I do hope we sign him before the window closes though.
