Driver Profile
This week, going to be talking about Scott Speed. While he's only racing a limited schedule in 2008, he's full-time in the series in 2009 and possible limited Sprint Cup races.
In just nine Craftsman Truck Series starts, to Speed's credit. He's compiled one-pole, one-win, three-Top Fives and five-Top tens.
He got his first win in the truck series in only his third start. Using pit strategy, he out ran both Jack Sprague and Ron Hornaday for the win at Dover.
The past race at Bristol, he captured his first career pole. Watching Speed race at Bristol. It's amazing to realize, he's never raced their or driven on a 1/2 mile oval track before and spent most of the night in the Top-Five, finishing third.
Prior to running ARCA Re/Max and a limited NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series schedule in 2008. Speed had zero experience in stock car racing, was interested in trying and with Red Bull supporting him.
Red Bull Racing was his sponsor when Speed drove in Formula One and followed him back to United States.
He got the opportunity to try, has done really well. Speed's a fast learner, smart enough to ask veteran drivers questions. Also reacts, adapts and adjusts well to whatever happens around him.

LJ will kill me for saying this, probably if they had Shrubs engine. Just kidding, nah I can't see the teams doing it, all the manufactures are pretty close competition wise and really can't see them finding magnets.
Toyota has four drivers winning nine races, Chevrolet has three drivers winning five races, Dodge and Ford have each one win a piece.
Yeah Speed looked really good at Bristol. Was surprised to find that comment about Red Bull was going to sponsor him in ACRA for this year and move on. That's huge when he forces them to change their minds, by what he done so far and now they are going Cup with him in '10.
You don't see many drivers doing that, let alone with zero experience and it will be exciting to see him Cup.
Imagine stopping at his hauler for his line of designer clothes, sure their will be a bunch of Speed's Red Bull wear sold.

Do you think Speed would ever come back to F1? I just so hate it that there is no American in the driver lineup after his exit

It's too bad that Red Bull didn't find another team to sign him. He really could have opened the door for US fans to get re-interested in F1 and even to get a race back here in the US.
Think he's destine to bring a refreshing change to NASCAR, he's the opposite of everyone else and can't wait to see what he can do in a Sprint Cup car. I'm more excited about him, than I am about Lagano.

SM, I agree with you, I think that Speed is definitely more interesting and promising than Joey Logano. Sometimes I think NASCAR hypes up these young drivers way too much - it's just too much pressure and they really don't perform well. I think Speed is the sleeper that will just work his way into the mix quietly and then just take the sport by storm. He is so different and such a quirky personality that I think he will be the next big ticket.
