The Five Most Intriguing College Football Games of Week One
The 2007 college football season was probably the most exciting season of this decade and it all started in Week One when Appalachian StateĀ beat the No. 5 Michigan Wolverines in the biggest upset of all-time.
The 2008 season should be just as dynamic and it starts withĀ these five games.
Appalachian St. vs. No. 7 LSU 5:00 p.m. ET
Appalachian St. rolls into Baton Rouge for LSU's opener and are a huge underdog. But they were in the same position last year when they traveled to Ann Arbor and beat the Wolverines, 34-32.
This is probably the most interesting game this week but definitely not the best match-up. App. St. probably won't beat LSU, but after last year I wouldn't mark them off.
Utah vs. Michigan 3:30 p.m. ET
The first game of the Rich Rodriguez era. I wouldn't miss this one.
Who is gonna start at quarterback for Michigan Steven Threet or Nick Sheridan? Will they be able to run the spread? How is Scott Shafer's blitz-crazy defense going to work in Ann Arbor?
Hopefully, all these questions will be answered when the Wolverines take the field Saturday to start a new era of Michigan football.
Michigan actually comes into this game as the underdog so it will be interesting to see how they respond. Watch for freshmen to get plenty of playing time.
No. 20 Illinois vs.Ā No. 6 Missouri 8:30 p.m. ET
Illinois comes into Missouri as the Tigers start their national championship run and Chase Daniel tries for the Heisman a second time.
We will see how Illinois quarterback Juice Williams can produce without running-back, Rashard Mendenhall, who departed to the NFL.
It's been well documented that Missouri's offense can produce as well as any other in the nation, but now we will get to preview how their defense can perform.
Also, will Illinois' cornerback Vontae Davis and the rest of the Illinois secondary be able to shut down Chase Daniel?
No. 24 Alabama vs. No. 9 Clemson 8:00 p.m. ET
Clemson hasn't won an ACC title since 1991, but this year looks very promising as they open the season against Nick Saban's Crimson Tide.
Wide Receiver Aaron Kelly and the Tigers offense willĀ be tested by a very strongĀ Alabama defense.
Alabama will get to see if their offense can rely on quarterback John Wilson. This game will probably won't be decided until the fourth quarter.
Hawaii vs. No. 5 Florida 12:30 p.m. ET
The main attraction: Florida quarterback Tim Tebow.
Last year Tebow became the first Sophomore to ever win the Heisman trophy when he ran and passed for more than 20 Touchdowns each. He is again the front-runner for the trophy this year and Hawaii will be the first test.
Meanwhile, it will be interesting to see how Hawaii plays without Colt Brennan and a new head coach after that embarrassing bowl loss to Georgia.
