2010 NYC Marathon: Ranking the Potential Finish of Celebrity Runners

Drake OzNov 5, 2010

The 2010 New York City Marathon has a definite celebrity feel to it this year.

Though the race largely features professional marathoners who run these things for a living, the 26.2 mile trek will be filled with some notable celebrities from sports and entertainment.

Some of the biggest names from TV, radio and even the NFL will participate in the race for dozens, maybe even hundreds of charities across the world.

So who will be putting their body through the grueling race for the sake of charity?

Let's take a look at 20 celebrities running the 2010 ING New York City Marathon.

And just for fun, I'll rank 'em in the order in which I think they'll finish first.

20. Al Roker

1 of 20

There's just something about Al Roker that puts a smile on my face, so I'm pulling for the guy.

But he's underwent gastric bypass surgery and an operation on his back, among other surgeries.

I'm not sure he'll be able to make it through the entire race.

19. Jared Fogle

2 of 20

I'm truly amazed that Jared "The Subway Guy" Fogle is still popular today.

Seriously, didn't his 15 minutes of fame run out like 15 years ago?

And am I supposed to ignore the fact that the only reason he went on the "Subway diet" was because it was close to where he lived?

Whatever. more power to you, Fogle.

18. Alanis Morissette

3 of 20

It's a free ride when you've already paid. Right, Alanis?

Well, this marathon damn sure isn't a free ride.

But maybe you can use those singing pipes of yours—because they help lung capacity?—to beat your fellow celebrities this Sunday.

17. Bobby Flay

4 of 20

Bobby Flay is a celebrity chef who is best known for his appearances on Iron Chef and a variety of shows on The Food Network.

But I'm a little hesitant to put him any higher on the list because of his profession.

I mean, he's a chef. How many artery-clogging foods do you think he eats daily?

16. Dante Di Loreto

5 of 20

You ever wonder why that Fox show Glee is EVERYWHERE you look?

Well, you can thank this guy, Dante Di Loreto.

He's the executive producer of the show.

Is there any way him not performing well in this race affects the show's status on TV? Because I really can't take it anymore.

15. Edison Pena

6 of 20

Edison Pena has been making headlines lately, and with good reason.

Pena was one of the trapped Chilean miners, and he actually ran while trapped underground, so he should be prepared for the race.

He's got a bum knee though, so he admitted it'll probably take him a really long time to finish the race.

14. Robin Quivers

7 of 20

You may not recognize Robin Quivers considering she rose to fame as a radio co-host.

And the 58-year-old is one of the oldest competitors you'll find on this list.

But she's had to put up with so much crap on The Howard Stern Show that I have faith she'll perform well this Sunday.

13. Anthony Edwards

8 of 20

Anthony Edwards, a.k.a. Mark Greene on the hit medical show E.R., will be running to raise money for a children's hospital in Kenya.

I applaud what you are doing for charity, Anthony.

There's just nothing I read about you that makes me think you'll outperform many of the other celebrities on this list.

12. Kate Shindle

9 of 20

Kate Shindle rose to fame when she won the Miss America pageant in 1998 and is now a star on Broadway.

You won't have to wait long to see her again in New York City.

She'll be starring as the Mad Hatter in "Wonderland: Alice's New Musical Adventure," which is set to begin on Broadway in March of next year.

11. Anthony Sullivan

10 of 20

I like to think of Anthony Sullivan as the "But that's not all" guy, which is his famous phrase he uses as a TV pitchman.

The guy can basically sell anything.

Give him a ball of yarn and aĀ PopsicleĀ stick, and he'll probably make a million dollars off of it.

He shouldn't have a problem with aĀ measlyĀ little 26.2-mile run.

10. Veronica Webb

11 of 20

Veronica Webb is a model, actress and TV personality who has appeared on the cover of numerous magazines, including Vogue.Ā

She won't win in, but chances are she'll look pretty good no matter what place she comes in.

9. David Blaine

12 of 20

We know David Blaine for creating awe-inspiring illusions and putting himself through incredible tests of endurance.

So my question is: can't he just perform one of his famous illusions and make it look like he completed the 26.2 mile run?

If he's really that good, I don't think that's too much to ask of him.

8. Edward Norton

13 of 20

Edward Norton is a bada*s.

Give me the Norton from Fight Club, The Hulk or American History X.

It really doesn't matter. The dude is unstoppable.

7. Tara Costa

14 of 20

Tara Costa finished in second on last year's edition of NBC's The Biggest Loser after losing an astonishing 155 pounds.

That's pretty damn impressive if you ask me.

And all the effort she put forth on that show should pay off in this race.

6. Terrell Tilford

15 of 20

Terrell Tilford is an actor who is best known for his role on One Life to Live.

He is also a former cancer survivor, and I'm a firm believer that his battle with the illness will help him in this race.

He's still pretty young at 41-years-old too, so he's my darkhorse to win this thing (out of the celebrities that is).

5. Tricia Byrnes

Tricia Byrnes is a professional snowboarder who I don't know much about.

But she obviously knows what it takes to win and she's used to dealing with the elements.

You gotta love that.

4. Justin Gimelstob

17 of 20

I'll admit that I've never heard of Justin Gimelstob.

But apparently he's a retired tennis player who's good friends with Andy Roddick and won the 1998 Australian Open and mixed doubles at the French Open alongside Venus Williams.

That's enough for me to put him this high on the list.

3. Ryan Sutter

18 of 20

Ryan Sutter is known for being chosen by Trista on the hit ABC show The Bachelorette.

But Sutter was actually drafted in the fifth round of the 1998 NFL Draft and bounced around the league for a while.

At just 36 years old, he's got to have some kind of athletic ability left.

2. Ethan Zohn

19 of 20

Ethan Zohn is a former winner of the hit show Survivor, which is enough on its own to prove he's a pretty tough cookie.

But Zohn is also a cancer survivor.

A 26.2 mile run should be a piece of cake considering what he's been through.

1. Amani Toomer

Of all the celebrities racing on Sunday, Amani Toomer might be in better physical shape then all of them.

Of course, he might be slacking now that his NFL days are over, but I'm sure he has something left in the tank.

Plus, he won't have to rely on Eli Manning in this sport.
