The women’s roster has been criticized over recent months due to lack of wrestling ability. WWE has a tendency to hire models with no wrestling experience and push then within the company due to them having ‘the look’. Whereas more experienced wrestlers, such as Gail Kim, are sparsely used.

However, WWE has recently been pushing Natalya for the first time since she has been on Raw. Natalya has recently had two Diva championship matches and gets her third challenge at the upcoming PPV Survivor Series.

Could she finally be successful in winning the Diva’s championship in her third match at Survivor Series?

WWE recently unified the women’s and Divas championship at the PPV Night of Champions. This was a controversial decision and has had some backlash.

Some thought WWE would unveil a new belt design shortly afterwards, however, WWE dropped the women’s belt and continued to use the Diva’s championship.

Shortly after WWE also dropped the word ‘unified’ from the championship name, and it became known as the Diva’s Championship once again.

Before the women’s championships was retired, it ran for 54 years and was the longest running active championship WWE had. Women wrestlers such as The Fabulous Moolah, Molly Holly, Trish Stratus and Lita have all held the women’s championship during the belt's run.

Trish Stratus commented on the retirement of the women’s belt as a being a mixed emotion, “It’s one of these, ‘Is the glass half full or half empty?’ [situations].” She continued on to say “Instead of looking at it as the belt is being retired or put to bed, I’m thinking, let’s just focus on this and build this different thing.

"Building a new legacy, building a new division, building some new women and I think that’s how you have to look at it.”

Maybe WWE is trying to build a new legacy around the belt with the new generation of wrestlers, but who is most worthy of a contender match?
