College Football Picks 2008 Week 1; Part 1: The Picks Are In

The first week of college football is officially here and in really what amounts just hours at this point they’ll be kicking off and we’ll be watching every play.

I’m not quite sure what we’ll see this year. While I think we have a pretty good handle on the actual teams and talent I’m not as sure about the scoring and the effect the clock changes are going to have on the game. We talked about the rule changes regarding the game clock over a month ago here and now that its official many others have joined in the discussion. It’s always a good thing when people discuss changes that didn’t need to be made, especially things that may ruin our game; too much is never enough in that respect.

People who apparently haven’t ignored the effect that the rule changes may have on the clock are the casinos and sports books. While I have seen projected opening over/under on games I have yet to see a book actually put one out there as of the time I’m writing this. I generally don’t touch that stuff unless it’s a gimme, I’m just making an observation.

I know Tuesday is my major day for my game picks but I’m chomping at the bit just like the rest of you to get things started. Normally I would still be doing some recapping at this point of the week but right now there’s nothing to recap except another weekend with no college football. I’m going to get things started with just a few early picks.

I’m using a unit system this year to make things easier. This will also help with our money line and occasional parlays. I’m using a 1 unit minimum and 3 unit max system for starters, this is always subject to change depending on our bankroll. Speaking of rolls, let’s get rolling. Mitch's College Picks Part 1
