College football picks sure to be somewhat correct

Jason EllisAug 24, 2008

Pre-season projections in college football can sometimes be spot on, while other times they can fall way off the mark.  That is what makes college football so fun and difficult to pick.  Just how many will hold up is hard to tell.

The following are my predictions as to who will win each conference division, title game and order of finish in each.  That will be followed by the two teams that will play for the BCS Championship and who will win that game.  These are my picks that may be somewhat right.

Atlantic Coast Conference

Top Dynasty Teams in CFB 27 😤

Atlantic Division:  Clemson—The Tigers finally live up to the hype that is placed on them.  An early victory over Alabama could place them in the National Title hunt.

2. Wake Forest, 3. NC State, 4. Florida State, 5. Maryland, 6. Boston College

Coastal Division:  Virginia Tech—Beamer ball still succeeds and gets the Hokies to another ACC title game

2. North Carolina, 3. Miami, 4. Georgia Tech, 5. Virginia, 6. Duke

ACC Championship GameClemson over Virginia Tech

Big East

Conference Champion:  South Florida—Last year’s late season slide is all but forgotten.  Quarterback Matt Grothe leads the charge to overtake West Virginia.

2. Pittsburgh, 3. West Virginia, 4. Connecticut, 5. Cincinnati, 6. Rutgers, 7. Louisville, 8. Syracuse

Big Ten

Conference Champion:   Ohio State—Return 18 starters from a team that played in the BCS Title game last season.  The fact that they’re supposed to be even better this year is scary.  Early test against USC will tell if the Buckeyes are for real.

2. Illinois, 3. Wisconsin, 4. Purdue, 5. Michigan, 6. Penn State, 7. Michigan State, 8. Northwestern, 9. Iowa, 10. Indiana, 11. Minnesota

Big 12

North Division:  Missouri—Excellence from last season continues this year.  A bigger target on the Tigers will equal bigger wins.

2. Kansas, 3. Nebraska, 4. Colorado, 5. Kansas State, 6. Iowa State

South Division:  Oklahoma—Texas and Tech still don’t have enough firepower to keep up with the Sooners.  Expect even bigger things from Bradford this year.

2. Texas Tech, 3. Texas, 4. Oklahoma State, 5. Baylor, 6. Texas A&M

Big 12 Championship game:  Missouri over Oklahoma

Pac-10

Conference Champion:  USC—Another year, another amazing Trojans team.  It’s almost like they have a football player factory on campus.  Tough early game against Ohio State will set the tone for the entire season.

2. Arizona State, 3. Oregon, 4. Arizona, 5. Oregon State, 6. California, 7. UCLA, 8. Stanford, 9. Washington, 10. Washington State

Southeastern Conference

East Division:  Florida—The Gators are stacked on offense.  More dependability in the running game equals a healthy Tim Tebow.  A healthy Tim Tebow equals trouble for everyone.

2. Tennessee, 3. Georgia, 4. South Carolina, 5. Vanderbilt, 6. Kentucky

West Division:  Auburn—With many of their difficult games at home, the Tigers finally get over the hump and take down those other Tigers.

2. LSU, 3. Alabama, 4. Mississippi State, 5, Ole Miss, 6. Arkansas

SEC Championship Game:  Florida over Auburn

Western Athletic Conference

Conference Champion:  Fresno State—The Bulldogs look poised to go on a run this season.  Maybe the anyone, anytime, anywhere philosophy will pay big dividends for Fresno.

2. Nevada, 3. Boise State, 4. Hawaii, 5. San Jose State, 6. Louisiana Tech, 7. New Mexico State, 8. Idaho, 9. Utah State

Mountain West

Conference Champion:  Brigham Young—The Cougars look to be even better than the team was last year.  A Top 25 pre-season ranking has BYU ready for success.

2. Utah, 3. TCU, 4. New Mexico, 5. Air Force, 6. San Diego State, 7. Wyoming, 8. Colorado State, 9. UNLV
