Fantasy Football Week 8: Players to Keep on Your Bench

Bruno Boys Fantasy FootballOct 30, 2010

We have a host of other players that deserve to be benched this week for one reason or another. One of those guys is Tennessee Titans receiver Kenny Britt. No way Britt can be on the list right? Not after scoring three touchdowns last week, right?

Well, he is. To see our justification for him, Favre and the other 13 players keep on reading our Fantasy Football Week 8 Sit โ€˜Em.

Brett Favre (Minnesota Vikings) @ New England

As mentioned in the intro, this is not a good start for Minnesota Vikings quarterback Brett Favre. He is very hobbled currently with two fractures in his left ankle, and he is also dealing with outside issues like the allegedly lewd texts and pictures he sent to former New York Jets sideline reporter Jenn Sterger.

Aside from all that, Favre has just not been that good this season. Heโ€™s already thrown 10 interceptions, which is three more than he had all of last season, and heโ€™s got just seven touchdowns in six games. The New England Patriots pass defense is not the greatest, and Favre will likely post high yardage totals.

However, the Patriots have already forced eight interceptions and they do play better at home, where they are 3-0 this season.

Ryan Mathews (San Diego Chargers) vs. Tennessee

For all intents and purposes, San Diego Chargers running back Ryan Mathews has been a fantasy bust this season. Heโ€™s averaging just 49.5 yards per game, has no 100-yard games and just one touchdown.

The Chargers say they are committed to Mathews, yet heโ€™s had just two games with double-digit carries. Mike Tolbert has more carries, more yards and more touchdowns than Mathews, and is the go-to guy around the goal line.

This weekโ€™s opponent, the Tennessee Titans, have only given up one rushing touchdown this season anyway, so Mathews belongs on the bench, even in deeper leagues.

Kenny Britt (Tennessee Titans) @ San Diego

Perhaps no player was added as often over the past week as Tennessee Titans wide receiver Kenny Britt. Catching seven passes for 225 yards and three touchdowns can have that kind of affect. A lot of people are already planning on starting Britt this week but you need to know the facts before you move forward.

Keep in mind that before Brittโ€™s outburst last week he averaged just 3.2 receptions per game. Plus this weekโ€™s opponent, the San Diego Chargers, are one of the best against the pass. The Chargers are allowing an average of just 11.3 fantasy points to opposing receivers, as a group and not individually, and have allowed just two passing touchdowns all year.

Britt may still score a touchdown, which would make him a decent WR2 or WR3 but itโ€™s not realistic to expect the type of numbers he put up last week.
