Twice as Nice for Brad Keselowski

Mary Jo BuchananAug 22, 2008

Brad Keselowski came from the 37th position, deep in the field at Bristol Motor Speedway, to claim his second career win in the Nationwide series event at the short track. This was his first ever win at Bristol. This was also the second win for the Navy sponsored Jr. Motorsports car, with the first win taking place at Nashville. Ā

Dale Jr. was on hand for the race and joined his young protĆ©gĆ© in victory lane for the celebration. Dale Jr. told his driver that it was victory lane in Bristol and "didn't get no better than that.ā€ Race victor Keselowski was also joined in the celebration by mother Kay, who has been present for both of his wins so far this season.

Keselowski was strong all evening, picking cars off one by one as he made his way towards race leader Clint Bowyer in the number 2 car. Ironically, Clint was also the driver that Brad has been chasing in the Nationwide championship chase. Bowyer had a nice lead until he made one slight bobble, wiggling slightly and sailing up the track. Ā

Brad took full advantage and glided easily past Bowyer to assume the race lead, which he never relinquished. Greg Biffle had a strong race, finishing in the third spot. Pole sitter and Kevin Harvick Inc. phenom Cale Gale brought his car home in the fourth position. David Stremme, driving for Rusty Wallace Inc., rounded out the top five.

Stremme's teammate and owner's son Steve Wallace, who also started deep in the pack, finished respectably in tenth position. Other championship contender Carl Edwards had a terrible race, crashing early and being out for repairs for over 60 laps. He finished in the 35th position and lost one spot in the championship points race, with Keselowski taking over the second spot in the chase.

Joe Gibbs Racing, down their crew chiefs and other key crew members due to the penalties handed down earlier in the week, also had a very tough day at the short track. Joey Logano had a tire rub after some racing damage and Kyle Busch's crew hung a lug nut in the last pit stop.

Busch, with his incredible driving abilities, was able to rally back to finish seventh after his pit road mishap. The Bristol night race managed to muddle up the Nationwide championship battle even further. So far, Clint Bowyer reigns supreme. Ā

But both race winner Brad Keselowski and tough competitor Carl Edwards are poised to pounce at the next Nationwide race set at the Auto Club Speedway in Fontana.
