Boise State plays the game on the field but has been playing the political game better. They claim that teams duck them, won't play them and conspire to keep them out of the BCS picture. Enough people have listened and voted the Broncos higher than they should be in the polls. Listed here are the 10 teams that would pin a loss on BSU and end their bid at a national title.
BSU wishes publicly that they be included in the BCS party. I say they don't qualify but if they did, here is a list of teams that would send BSU home in defeat.
Careful what you wish for Boise State, you just might get it.
The Horned Frogs are quietly playing good football. In fact, if you look at the game played by both BSU and TCU against Wyoming, you will see that TCU is playing better ball. Their defense is notably superior and would give BSU nothing but a BUS ticket home.
TCU is an ideal candidate for the open spot in the Big 12, aka the Texas 12. If you play TCU, you should expect to have a fight on your hands. They are a good team with a lot of good players.
And their mascot is cool.
Auburn is no paper tiger.
Auburn is quietly making waves in the SEC, one of the top two football conferences in the nation. Undefeated, they are looking at the SEC championship game as a very strong possibility. List of victories to date:
- Arkansas State
- Mississippi State
- South Carolina
- Louisiana Monroe
That isn't the hard part, they finish off with:
- SEC Championship
Win those and Auburn would have completed a second half schedule that BSU would be lucky to go 3-3. Chattanooga wasn't listed, argue it is a cheap game and you miss the point.
BSU has played top-tier teams. At issue is that they have never played them back to back to back. You get beat up in a schedule like Auburn's. That is why with two losses, I still pick Auburn above BSU.
Coaching makes Iowa Dangerous
Iowa fans will give no excuse for their loss in Arizona. They will tell you that after going down 21 points, they came back and should have won. This team will make the best teams look bad.
In Iowa, it is all about coaching. Ferentz is widely considered a top five coach, and his staff is loyal and have been together for a long time. Ferentz's greatest strength is that he gets more out of his players than any other program in the country.
Iowa is bigger and stronger than BSU, and when they have time off before a major bowl game, they are next to impossible to beat. Ask Georgia Tech. Should Iowa win the Big Ten and draw Boise in a bowl, Boise will fall hard.
I don't like Steve Spurrier, never have and probably never will. I also have never met the man and don't expect to in the near future. I might change my mind about him if we ever met, but I do know that I respect him as an offensive guru and know that teams need to take that into account when playing USC.
Alabama found out the hard way.
There is nothing BSU can say that will change my mind that USC is the better team. A much better team with a better coach. USC has arrived.
Anyone wanna play at Camp Randal?
Camp Randall Stadium. Wisconsin has won 40 of their last 44 games there. BSU wants to be respected, but they charge too much to come and play a game. Hiding behind the contract cost, I think they are ducking the opportunity to get a Big Ten beatdown at the hands of the Badgers.
Wisconsin and Iowa are listed as probable losses for the Ohio State University. We will soon find out.
Loading up the wagons to play BSU
The Sooners are waiting for the rematch of the Game of the Century. They will be ready and they will be next to impossible to beat; the people of Oklahoma would have it no other way.
Currently tops in the South division of the Big 12. The original Game of the Century rematch looms large in the future against Nebraska. Both teams are looking like they will be undefeated going into that game. The winner is my pick at a title shot. The loser will take out their frustrations on the team they get in their BCS bowl game. I figure that unlucky team will be BSU. The perfect rematch if Oklahoma loses the Big 12.
The other half of the Big 12 that is waiting for their opportunity to punish the unwanted step-child BSU. Like OU, Nebraska would bring a suffocating defense and a high-powered running game that would decimate the undermanned BSU defense.
Look at the rosters, there is no position that BSU can point to as being better than the Huskers. None. And yet BSU still gets the beneficial rankings.
BSU has been upset recently by Nebraska dropping a scheduled set of games with the Huskers playing in Boise for one. Boise holds 33,000 people in the stands. More Husker fans traveled to Washington to see that game than Boise can hold in their entire stadium.
Husker Nation is ready.
Quack attack is BACK!
There is no question in my mind the result of a game between Oregon and BSU. Oregon would just outscore BSU with probably the best offense in football.
Simple but true.
No way you can tell me that BSU should be ranked higher than Oregon, it makes no sense!
Roll Tide Roll
Stumbled against USC but consider this, Alabama will play and defeat six ranked teams going into a bowl game. Boise should be on notice that the defending national champion will be there at the end, ready to play.
Player by player comparison will tell you BSU would have little if any chance beating this one-loss team. They could lose three and still be better than BSU and most of the country.
Want respect Boise? Get on any two SEC teams schedules next year or the year after.
Winning those games will be the toughest test BSU has had to date.
BSU against OSU? Bronco's defeat would be Brutal!
The Ohio State Buckeyes will be on the top of the list until they lose to either Wisconsin or Iowa. Otherwise they will be the champions of the toughest Big Ten in years.
Man for man, OSU is better than BSU. It isn't even close. Look at the roster for yourself. You are crazy if you don't agree that BSU is just not in the same league.
If BSU is unlucky enough to draw OSU in the final game of the season, let's just say it won't be pretty.
