Five Most Overlooked Games that Could Determine SEC Title

Alex FarrerAug 19, 2008

1. Auburn at Mississippi State (Sept. 13)

Auburn gets a tough test in their SEC opener from the same team that came into Jordan-Hare and shocked the Tigers last season. Auburn will still be breaking in a new quarterback.

Whether it is Blake Todd, Kodi Burns or both is anyone's guess. If Mississippi State can run the ball, control the clock and play bend-but-don't-break defense, Auburn could be in an 0-1 hole after the first week of conference play.

2. Alabama at Georgia (Sept. 27)

With all the tough road games on Georgia's schedule peopleĀ seem toĀ forgetĀ the early season test they will get from the team that took them to overtime last year in Tuscaloosa.

If Alabama upsets Clemson in the season opener and wins a tough but winnable game at Arkansas, they could be headed to Athens 4-0. With tough road games in the two previous weeks for the Dawgs at South Carolina and at Arizona State, Georgia could be running on empty by the time this one rolls around.

Then, there's that Saban guy who can coach a little bit also.

3. Ole Miss at Alabama (Oct. 18)

TheĀ amount of talent that Ole Miss has is no joke. How they are being picked by some outlets to finish fifth or sixth in the West is beyond me. For Bama, this game is sandwiched between an off-week and the hated rival Tennessee.

This would be a perfect time forĀ the Rebels to sneak intoĀ T-town and pick off theĀ Tide. If LSU and Auburn stumble, this game could go a longĀ way to determine the Western division representative in Atlanta.

4. Tennessee at South Carolina (Nov. 1)

With all the pre-season hype surrounding Georgia and Florida,Ā it isĀ automatically assumed thatĀ Tennessee and South Carolina are playing for third in the East. InĀ Knoxville and Columbia, they are saying, "keep overlooking us."

With Georgia's tough schedule as well as Tennessee and South Carolina both getting a chance to beat Florida, this game could produce the surprise East champion.

5. LSU vs. Arkansas (Nov. 28 at Little Rock)

This game could determine if LSUĀ makes plans forĀ Atlanta or heads back home to Baton Rouge.

By this time, Bobby Petrino's system should be running like a well-oiled machine. The Bayou Bengals willĀ certainly have revenge on their mind for last year's overtime loss in Death Valley.
