100 Up for Montgomery

Ian TaitAug 18, 2008

Who scored the most points for the Springboks on Saturday? Oh yes sorry nobody, yes that is right the Boks got ZIP, Niks, Nil. In a performance of two halves and referee that went from shocking to good. A Bok scrum that was devastating but again amounted to nothing because we could not win or own ball on the deck. Our three quarters where lost andeven with ā€œHail Maryā€ passes, we only managed to give the ball to New Zealandto score. Percy Montgomery became the first Springbok to win 100 test caps. Well done Percy, but again did the Boks concentrate on the game at handor Percy getting his ton. Why did the coach bench Burger, because he was not playing a good game? So he decided to put Luke ā€œMotor Mouthā€ Watson onto the field. What did he do, steal any balls, no! Did he make any crunching tackles like Schalk; yes he did a tried to stop the big Dan Carter from scoring under the poles and failed. PierreSpies why must be kick a ball instead of running it up, got a Blue Bull block on one dimensional rugby. Let me pick you a Bok XV that would do justice to the Green and Gold on current form and excluding injured players.

Yes it is a different side and all you Bulls fans are scream, what no Mattfield well he has passed his sell by date andonly plays well with Bakkies. Danie Rossouw is a world class hard man that give 120% all the time. Wikus is like John Smit a born leader and that is what the Boks need. Barend Pieterse is the best lock in the Currie Cup at the moment andwould be a solid replacement in the second row. Heinke van der Merwe and I hear the Lions fans say ā€˜yes’ is one on the strongest scrummages in the game and has had a great season and it is time for reward. Big Joe should never have been dropped after the All Black tests in New Zealandand here I can only blame Peter de Villiers. Terblanche is the most stable and reliable fullback in South Africaand yes he may be 34 but he is fast, has ball skill andtons on experience. The plus side from Saturday was that the Boksdid look dangerous with ball on the front foot however we just could not finish. The Tri-Nations may be lost but we can still give the Wallabies a proper klap in the next two weeks.

In the only other Currie Cup game of the weekend the Blue Bulls dispatched of the Griquas 41-12 to lead the log by one point over the Sharks.

The Olympic for South Africa has been anything but successful, but all hail to King Phelps. 8 Gold medals in Chinaand 14 in total, more than any other Olympian in history. But today there was a Silver lining in the storm cloud when Khotso Mokoena won Silver in the long jump. Our first medal so far. Young Kirsty Coventry won 4 medals for Zimbabwe1 gold and 3 silvers. Jamaican sprinter UsainBolt smashed a world record on 9.69 secondto take gold in the 100m. He stopped running with 20 meters to go WOW imagine the time he may have got. Jamaica also took all the honors with the woman’s 100m final taking 1st, 2nd and 3rdplace. UsainBolt has also qualified for the 200m with a time of 20.69 seconds in a bid to take the Olympic Sprint double. Don’t miss this one!

South Africa’s joke of sport soccer, yes soccer has dropped to new levels of stupidity. It looks like the Brazilian coach that left our country to be with his sick wife is set to return to consult as a technical advisor for Bafana Bafana. It seems the gravy train for 2010 is here. Stupid SAFA are set to accept Carlos Alberto Parreira, although Raymond Hack is denying it. Only time will tell.

So who will rule in England this season? Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal or Man United or maybe Newcastle. Only time will tell. Newcastlewere very good on Sunday anda very different side from last season. Spurs lost to Middlesbrough 2-1 andAston Villa started off with a bang beating Man City4-2. Liverpool andArsenal had solid wins, withMan U drawing 1-1 with Newcastle. But the performance of the season came from Chelsea with 4-0 demolition of Portsmouth. It is going to be an interesting season on who will take it. Looking at the top 4 your champion is bound to come from there and I don’t think I will be wrong on this one. However would it not be interesting to see Spurs, Newcastle or Aston Villa winning the title?

The Doctor took a 50 point lead yesterday by winning the Motor GP in Brno in the Czech Republic. Stoner wiped out on the 6thlap when he dropped the front end and crashed out sending sparks flying. Way Cool! This gifted the race to Rossi, withElias in second and Capirossiin third place. With six races remaining it is still anybody’s championship. Interesting times ahead.

Until next week, don’t stress too much about the Boks, they will do fine this weekend. I give them a win by 13 points. The Proteas will beat Englandin the limited overs series. Kimi Raikkonen will win in Spain on Sunday.

Think beyond the horizon and you will find success!
