NHL Game Recap: New Jersey Devils Vs. Washington Capitals

Todd CordellCorrespondent IOctober 10, 2010

Last night the Devils played a great first period and had a 2-1 lead, but they then allowed six unanswered goals and got waxed 7-2. Here is a look at last night's rather ugly looking boxscore.

First Period

NJD - G: Jason Arnott (2) A: Jamie Langenbrunner, Patrik Elias

WSH - G: John Carlson (1)

NJD - SHG: Henrik Tallinder (1) A: Dainius Zubrus, Travis Zajac

Second Period

WSH - G: Tomas Fleischmann (1) A: Alex Semin, John Carlson

WSH - G: Alex Ovechkin (1) A: Mike Knuble, John Carlson

WSH - G: Jason Chimera (1) A: Tomas Fleischmann

WSH - PS: Alex Ovechkin (2)

Third Period

WSH - SHG: Brooks Laich (2)

WSH - PPG: Eric Fehr (1) A: Alex Semin, Alex Ovechkin

Devils Notes

Anton Volchenkov got hit in the face by a Nicklas Backstrom slapshot in the first period. He did not return and is questionable for Monday's game.

According to Bob McKenzie, Pierre-Luc Letourneau-Leblond's instigating penalty will result in a one-game suspension. PL3 had 21 PIM's in just over three minutes of ice time.

Capitals Notes

Alex Ovechkin played a heck of a game, picking up three points.

Nicklas Backstrom was held off the score sheet despite the team scoring seven goals.

Rookie Marcus Johansson looked very good last night, He served some time on the PK.

Michal Neuvirth had a shaky first period but rebounded nicely and made timely saves until the Capitals could get their feet on the ground.

My Three Stars

1. Alex Ovechkin (2G, 1A, GWG)

2. John Carlson (1G, 2A)

3. Michal Neuvirth (31-33, W)
