SILVA VS. JACKSON, THIRD FIGHT'S A CHARM?

James HizonaAug 17, 2008

Hello MMA fans and fighters! I am James "Balistik" Hizona, and this is "MMA ALL THE WAY!!". Today's topic of discussion is a matchbetween former PRIDE champion "The Axe Murderer" Wanderlei Silva and former UFC Lightheavyweight Champion Quinton "Rampage" Jackson.

Rumor has it, that Wanderlei Silva and Quinton Jackson will meet for a third time to headline UFC 91. No location has been set for the event, but chances of these two fighters meeting in the octagon are high. True, on paper, this looks like a great fight, but to the fighters, I am not so sure. Both of these guys met twice in PRIDE and both fights were won convincingly by Wanderlei. Yes, I can understand a Rubber Match to happen, but Rampage has yet to beat Silva. Usually a Rubber Match happens if one of the first two fights were controversial, but both fights were one-sided in favor of Wanderlei. Plus, after the Forrest fight, Rampage did show vulnerability when stuck in the clinch. No offense to Forrest, but Wanderei is at another level when he is in the clinch. Perfect technique and pin-point striking in clinch is how Wanderlei demolished Jackson in both fights. Unless he trains on the clinch and stay out of trouble outside the UFC, I cannot see Quinton surviving the second round! Other than this being their first time meeting in the UFC octagon, I do not see why these fighters want to square off again. True, rules and the ring are different from PRIDE to the UFC, but both fighters have adapted very well to the UFC world. As a fan I would love to see these fighters go at it again, but as a Mixed Martial Artist, Rampage must win this fight. Even if he does, would there be a fourth or, dare I say, a fifth? There has never been a fourth meeting between fighters let alone a fifth!

Well those are my thoughts. Now comes the time to hear yours. Is a good move for the careers of both fighters to face each other again? But why? Is Dana White just throwing random big names to hype up the card? Or is this Dana Whites attempt to bring Rampage back into the good graces of UFC fans? But why Wanderlei of all people? Why is Wanderlei even considering the match? Does he want to solidify his dominance over Jackson? Until then, this is Balistik signing out.

Peace Out!
