MMA is Singing my Song!
Maybe the MMA is an unusual choice of a pastime for a woman my age with graying hair and deteriorating health, but as I have said before I love the sport and will apologize to no one for my obsession.
"I love MMA, so put another fight disc on the TV baby!" "I love rock and roll, so put another dime in the record machine!" '
Ah, my Joan Jet days are long gone, but not her songs. And the same is true when I hear the theme of the PPV events as the Gladiator is shown girding his loin's and preparing to face the promise of pain and punishment in the now infamous octagon for this, the current "fight of his life."

Nothing gets me pumped up as fast as hearing that theme come on after the infuriating replaying of pre-fight hype which is often already familiar to me from having watched at least two of the UFC Countdown features on Spike TV. After so many viewer complaints, why don't they get a clue?
Could it be that this is Dana White's way at getting back at the fans by riveting them to their seats in anticipation of this new event and then torturing them with the tease?
Well, it is working! At least it does with me.
I suddenly experience a feeling of annoyance and anticipation only when Joe Rogan and Mike Goldberg go into their pre-fight shtick. Since every fan watching hopes it will be a really great show, they must sit and listen to the dynamic duo discuss why it will be, and hope all concerned are right.
Disappointment at the rate of $49.95 (for the PPV) is a little steep for an experience in angst.
I look forward to hearing the walk-in songs that the fighters have chosen and hope for some "oldies" and a few personal favorites rather than all rap songs which I hate and find tedious to hear at any venue. My youngest son who is better at remembering the titles and groups, races with me to see who will identify the song first, and I enjoy that small additional family competition leading up to each individual fight
When the entrance music has been especially good, I can end up humming it for days. Like that dumb little Jamaican song "Don't Worry, Be Happy," which an anesthesiologist used to sing when we worked together on a Labor and Delivery Department because he knew I would walk around cursing him due to being unable to shoo it from my mind. Medical personnel can be such sadists in what should be a cheerful environment!
As I have mentioned, The "Cote" chant sticks in my mind and I love to sing it when I watch him fight. My family will surely have to gag me to keep me from starting up with that if I ever so get to see him fight Anderson Silva fight in Chicago on October 25th.
Even though I love to sing, I am not even passable and frequently embarrass myself when singing in church or the National Anthem, which I knew all the words to until fairly recently. Using the music to write a parody about my eye poking issue with BJ Penn didn't help, either.
At this point if you are wondering, I don't just watch MMA fights to hear the music, I have way too many CDs of my own at home. Still being the curious person I am I love to see which musical selections my favorite fighters will chose, and where some folks get images of sexy girls pole dancing in skimpy bikinis, I have visual images of Go Go dancers writhing in birdcages wearing hot pants with half tees and perhaps covered in words written in body paint ala Goldie Hawn in her early days on "Laugh In." Just a generation type thing (I am an aging Baby Boomer, born in January of 1946, I am one of the first).
So I love the fights themselves, my favorite fighters, griping about the long preludes, critiqueing Joe and Goldie, and having songs imprinted on my failing memory that I will remember long enough to hum them for a few days annoying my family.
It was good for me, was it good for you too?
