Matt Kobyluck Again Victorious in Camping World East Race

Mary Jo BuchananAug 17, 2008

Matt Kobyluck is on fire in the Camping World East Series, visiting the winner's circle yet again at Lime Rock Park.

The race weekend got off to a rocky start, with qualifying cancelled due to the rain.  The field was set by points, so points leader Kobyluck, in the No. 40 Mohegan Sun car, was tapped to bring the field to the green flag.

There was a little drama prior to the beginning of the race.  Driver Eddie MacDonald's car blew an engine in practice and the team decided to bring in an entirely new race car instead of just changing engines.  Two hours prior to the race start, the car was still making its way toward the race track.

Fortunately, it arrived in time to go through inspection and take its rightful place in the eighth starting spot.

The race got underway smoothly, with Kobyluck sailing to the lead.  At lap 48, however, skies opened up and the race was red flagged for rain.  After about an hour, the skies cleared and the engines re-fired, getting the drivers back out on the track.

There was another weird occurrence in the race when on lap 76, the pace car forgot to come off the track and back into pit road.  Apparently, there was a breakdown in communication somewhere about when exactly the race was going back to green.

The field followed the pace car yet one more lap, and after a successful exit off the track this time, the pace car was off and the cars went back to racing.

Kobyluck reigned supreme throughout the rest of the race.  He took the checkered flag for yet another race win.  Marc Davis came in second, with Peyton Sellers (Andy Santerre's driver) finishing third.  Jesus Hernandez, one of the young DEI development drivers, finished fourth.  Mike Olsen rounded out the top five.

Veteran Steve Park had a great run, finishing seventh.  Ricky Carmichael finished in the 12th position.  Jeffrey Earnhardt, Kerry's son, finished 18th, and Austin Dillon, Richard Childress' grandson, finished 21st, both having fairly tough days at the track.

And, remember that Eddie McDonald, who barely got his new car to the track in time?  He came in a respectable 14th.

Matt Kobyluck, the victor yet again, has now won three in a row.  This race signifies the fourth trip to the winner's circle for him this season.  Is there anyone who can challenge him for the championship this season?

With only four more races to go, it seems that Kobyluck is unbeatable in his quest for the banquet seat at his sponsor Mohegan Sun.
