Carlos Tevez has fast become a fan favorite at Old Trafford with his passionate and potent displays. The Argentinean has displayed limitless energy and wonderful skill week in and week out for the English Champions, and never is there a game where fans won’t see Tevez giving his utmost effort on the pitch.
The 24-year-old enjoyed a fabulous first season with Manchester United, winning both the Premier League title and the Champions League. Tevez’s contribution since making the move from West Ham has not gone unnoticed, especially after chipping in with 19 goals last season.
Carlos Tevez has formed a perfect strike pairing with Wayne Rooney at the front of United’s attack and Sir Alex Ferguson is excited by what Tevez has to offer his team this season.
"His fitness now is light years ahead of where it was then (last year) and we are expecting big things from him,” Ferguson said. The great thing about Tevez is that he has a heart to play the game. He is not intimidated at all, he fights for every ball and is a real handful.”
Former Manchester United striker and legend Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is also a huge fan of the hard working and talented Argentinean. Solskjaer was one of the most potent strikers to ever come through Old Trafford and the Norwegian claims Tevez will only get better for Manchester United.
“He’s got a winning mentality,” Solskjaer said. “He wants to be the best, he wants to win, he wants to score goals. If he’s on the bench he wants to come on and do well, he’s not one to sit down and sulk and ask, ‘Why didn’t I start’.
“He can pop up on the left wing, right wing, just behind the strikers, he can be in midfield and boss things, he was better than we probably hoped for last year. He's one of those players who brings the other players up, but he brings the crowd up as well and I think that's important for a team to have these players who can lift the whole stadium, lift the crowd, because when the crowd gets lifted it lifts the players as well. So his work rate is something which makes other players play better."
The expectations for Tevez will only increase this season after enjoying such a great start to his United career, but Solskjaer is confident the former Corinthians striker can cope with the added pressure.
"Carlos is at the right place because he can handle the pressure, he just wants to be the best, he wants to be a winner," he added. “First season two trophies, obviously next season will be a big one as well, but I'm sure he will respond to that as he has always done, he's always stood up and played well.”
Tevez also enjoyed a fabulous pre-season for United, scoring two goals and showing why United are eager to sign him on a permanent deal. Newcastle are already wary of the threat Tevez poses ahead of their opening game of the season at Old Trafford.
Jonas Gutierrez, who recently joined from Real Mallorca, has warned his new teammates they need to pay special attention to his international teammate, Carlos Tevez.
"He's a very good player and our defenders will have to pay a lot of attention because he can score a goal at any moment,” Gutierrez said. “There are many good players in the Manchester United team but Carlos is playing very well and had a great season last time."
So if I have one message for the rest of the Premier League, it’s BEWARE. Carlos Tevez looks like he’s set for what could be the best season of his entire career.
With Ronaldo out of action until October, United will heavily be relying on Tevez for goals, also known as the "Lion" for his determined displays on the football pitch.
Tevez may have big expectations weighing on his shoulders, but I fully expect him to deliver and lead Manchester United to silverware this season.
