UFC: Please Dana, Be Reasonable!

Dorothy WillisAug 15, 2008

There has been a rumor started on this site that I do not like the President of the UFC Dana White.

The rumor is completely untrue, I am actually pretty ambivalent about him, I just happen to enjoy invoking his name and putting my requests concerning The UFC and about the future of MMA in articles and using his name to keep my requests separate from my prayers.

Hopefully this is not as confusing to my readers as it is to my family when they catch me having a rather one sided dialogue with Dana every time he appears on TV and I use him for purposes of venting my thoughts of the moment about MMA to him. My husband is beginning to think that ''Dana" is one of my grown up "imaginary friends."

Really it is not like 'hearing voices' or anything pathological. When I imagine his response to my side of the "conversation" I know it is just my thoughts and internal voice, not his being transmitted by the grandchildrens' transformers, my microwave or my husband's cell phone (which is turned up so high I can hear the other person's comments when he is on the phone. It can be disconcerting when it is my mother asking questions about me.)

With Dana, I frequently ask him if he is crazy, because of a statement or decision he has made, which brings me to my subject for this article.

I just finished reading an article which stated that Dana has given BJ Penn permission to hold two belts/titles at once should he beat GSP in their next fight.

My response to this news, not surprisingly, was, "Dana, are you crazy!"   Because I do not believe BJ has ever been as concerned about defending his LIghtweight title as he is about taking Georges St. Pierre's cherished and hard won belt from him.

Jealousy thy name is Baby Jay Penn.

An obligation to defend his title at least one time should be the standard for challenging someone in another weight class before allowing BJ to go after Georges' title. Otherwise why even have a title?

BJ does not take fights on short notice, as he is expecting Georges to do, and I have read recently here on the site that Georges says "no way" to a fight in December of this year because he needs a rest after four battles in a year's time.

Good for you, Georges!

BJ is certainly not as ambitious in other matters as in his pursuit of Rush's gold belt, as he prefers to schedules his own fights 7 to 10 months apart. But BJ does seem to have double standards as well as having double joints.

"Why, Dana, do you value Georges so little and BJ so much that you are willing to promote this travesty?"

Could it be that after calling his win over Sean Sherk all by himself, rather than waiting for the referee's decision, that BJ has taken over the reins of the UFC?

Wow! I wonder if he paid for it all by himself, or if his wealthy parents did?

Hm, maybe I should quit having these futile conversations with Dana and try to find out who the real boss is? I may be wasting my breath, and everyone knows I can't afford to do that.

Looks like Dana isn't the one who is being so unreasonable after all.

Mr. White, will you please give me Mr. and Mrs. Penn's phone or fax number?

Aloha, may I please speak to Baby Jay?
