After just being swept by the lowly Cleveland Indians, the Toronto Blue Jays began a four-game set against the Detroit Tigers with a convincing 7-2 win. The Jays scored three more runs in this game than they did in the entire series against the Indians.
The Jays were able to get an early lead off of the struggling Justin Verlander when they scored two runs in the second inning. They also managed two runs in both the fourth and the fifth inning off of Verlander, chasing him from the game after he had thrown only 78 pitches.
Rod Barajas played the biggest part in the offensive barrage as he drove in three runs throughout the night, including a solo shot that ended the Jays team homerless drought of 47 innings. Barajas' homer also made him only the second player on the Jays to reach double digit figures in home runs, following the footsteps of veteran slugger Matt Stairs.

Vernon Wells, in his second game back from an extended stay on the disabled list, went 2-for-3, with one RBI and two runs scored.
As previously mentioned, Verlander would only manage 78 pitches in four and one-third innings pitched, giving up six runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out two batters.
Former Jay Aquilino Lopez pitched three and one-third innings in relief, giving up one run, while Casey Fossum finished the game in the ninth for the Tigers.
Meanwhile, Shaun Marcum made his second consecutive good start after struggling when he returned from the disabled list. Marcum was able to locate his fastball very well and used his changeup effectively tonight, managing to effectively shut down the Tigers' offense.
Marcum would finish with six innings pitched, giving up just two runs on eight hits and one walk, while striking out three batters.
Brandon League, Scott Downs and BJ Ryan were all able to pitch perfect innings the rest of the way in a very important victory for the Jays.
