"MMA ALL THE WAY!!" GSP WINS, BROCK IS FOR REAL, YOU CAN'T KILL KENNY!!
Hello MMA fans and fighters! I am James "Balistik" Hizona, and this is "MMA ALL THE WAY!!". Today's topic of discussion is UFC 87: Seek and Destroy. So let us reflect on what happened on the night of August 9th.
UFC 87 was an amazing card! I enjoyed it immensely. The Georges St-Pierre, Jon Fitch fight showed me just what makes this sport so special. After 25 minutes of beating the hell out each other, both fighters got on their knees and showed their respect to one another. Even though GSP won by unanimous decision, Jon Fitch won the respect of everyone in the building, including the Champ. That dude has a mega ton of heart! Most fighters would have been knocked out in the first round, but Fitch would not give up. He does have the heart of a champion. I agree with what Georges said about Fitch when he said that this loss will be the best thing to ever happen to him. I strongly believe that we will see the next level of Jon Fitch. Congrats to GSP for successfully defending his title. Not only did he beat Fitch, St-Pierre, once again, out wrestled a highly accomplished wrestler. I really could not see a weakness in his game that night. I just hope UFC Lightweight Champion BJ Penn saw a weakness before he called out St-Pierre or he will be in trouble.

Now that he has the UFC jitters out of the way, Brock Lesnar showed the world, especially Heath Herring, that he should be a force to be reckoned with in the heavyweight division. I saw a major improvement in Lesnar from his last fight. His stiking was precise and he kept his composer throughout all three rounds. It has been a while since I saw somebody get punched so hard that he did a backward role! That is exactly what Brock did in the opening round! That guy has canned hams for fists! No wonder he made the debut of the UFC's first ever 4XL gloves! Props to Herring though, for taking a 15 minute beating and not get finished by the Minnesota native. There is still a lot left in the tank for the young veteran. Brock still has a lot too learn. Even though I saw improvements in his performance, I did see areas that still have room to grow. But those areas will improve in due time. Now I would like to see Brock finish an opponent in the octagon and if he continues to train and learn, that will be here sooner than you think.
There was something missing from the Roger Huerta, Kenny Florian fight. I was hoping for an epic battle. Instead, I saw Ken-Flo dominate Huerta in all three rounds, handing Huerta his first loss in the octagon. I do not know if it was personal issues or Florian imposing his will that led to Huerta's loss. All I know is that that was a different Roger Huerta that night. No offense to Kenny, he truly did show his samurai spirit in the fight and I see another title shot for my fellow Bostonian. You can't kill Kenny!
Congrats to Demian Maia in his win over Jason MacDonald. If you want to see great Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, this fight had it. Maia showed exactly why he is 2 time Jiu-Jitsu World Champion. MacDonald keeps on saying that he does not want to be a stepping stone for anybody, but Maia choked him out and stepped up another notch on the rankings of the Middleweight Division.
Now the fight between TUF 5 alums Manny Gamburyan and Rob "The Saint" Emerson did surprise me! I did expect for Manny to rush Emerson swinging for the fences, but I did not expect Emerson to knock Manvel out in 12 seconds of the first! All Hail "The Saint"!
Now that I have shared my thoughts, I would love to hear yours! What did you think about UFC 87? Were you surprised? Do you think Brock is legit? Was Huerta "not" Huerta? Did BJ make the right move in calling GSP out? Your words are more than welcome. Until then, this is Balistik signing out
Peace Out!
