Jon Fitch: How Do You Like Georges Now?
Well Jon, this could be the third installment in which I have written about your opinions of Georges St. Pierre and his fighting.
If I recall, I first wrote "Excuse me Jon Fitch , , , ," after you made the inane statement that from your observations on the Matt Serra-GSP Match I, that Georges did not like to be hit in the face. My response was: who does?
Although Georges beat Josh Koschek whom you have been practicing with and who had predicted that you would win this fight since he coached you and given you the benefit of his knowledge of Georges' fighting style, you failed to capitalize on his expertise.

Now that you have faced Georges in the octagon, tell everyone, did you enjoy being hit in the face by Georges who certainly proved beyond a doubt that he is not at all afraid to stand and exchange blows with you?
It certainly did not look that enjoyable to those watching, and you left the arena looking much worse than Georges did after his loss to Matt Serra on April 7, 2007.
As Georges explained to you after the fight, perhaps this loss will be the best thing that has ever happened to you. You did not set a record by beating Royce Gracies' record number of consecutive wins, and just maybe there is a reason behind that.
It is indeed wonderful to be a winner in any sport, but losing often puts things in better perspective for a person your age.
Popular wisdom of the West is "there never was a horse that couldn't be rode, and never a cowboy who couldn't be throwed." The same old adage applies to most situations, MMA fighting included. It is beneficial to learn something like this early in your career to avoid becoming complacent and overconfident in your own abilities.
In all, Georges defeated you at your own game and "ground" you down by taking you down at will, stuffing your take-down attempts, standing and picking you apart with kicks and strikes while taking the best that you were capable of giving.
He passed your legendary guard in spite of never wrestling in high school or college. Your black belt in Guerrilla Jiu-Jitsu did not trump his black belt in Kyokushin Karate; to put it simply "Georges was not impressed." Hopefully whoever you met next will be.
