Brett Favre: What Else Does He Have?

Daniel JumaaAug 9, 2008

I do not blame Brett Favre for changing his mind and wanting to return to play football.Ā  Favre has lived in a bubble for so long.

Favre has been around football his entire life and that is all he knows.Ā  From his first steps, his father was the high school football coach, so you can imagine Brett over there all the time.Ā

Then, when he got older, he just kept with football and kept learning more. When he entered high school and played football, this was all he still knew. Eventually, he went off to college and played football there.

Brett was then drafted into the NFL and started playing professional football, and before long he was a starting quarterback.Ā  When you play quarterback, it carries heavy responsibilities.Ā  He was the team leader, everyone looked up to him.Ā

Many guys put their trust into his hands. When not playing on Sundays, he was studying film or preparing for the next game with practices. Once in the NFL, he lived like this for nearly 17 years, with just football, and then all those years before the NFL.

So if you think about it, for nearly 35 years now, all Brett has known is football. He had no other interests that took up time and kept him busy like football.Ā  So, when he retired he felt lost. Brett didn't know what he was going to do.Ā

I admit he could have started a career in coaching or broadcasting; something else related to football. However, Favre is still a kid at heart and loved the game, not the money or the records.

Think about it this way. A young boy grows up on a farm, he takes over the farm once he gets a family, and he works it for the next 40 years before he calls it quits and retires.Ā

Now this farmer has known nothing elseĀ but farming since he was around three or four years old. When he retires and moves off the farm, he is going to feel lost. He may even return to help with small duties around the farm or even just yard work, but you can't take him out of it.Ā

It's similar to how you can't take Favre out of football. It is his life and all he has known. Like the old man, all he knows is farming.
