Premier League preview on Arsenal FC

nikky belloAug 8, 2008

So once again the oh so exciting premier league season is a week away and everyone, from a fan to a journalistĀ will give their opinion on what will happen in terms ofĀ the team to watchĀ out for and the team that will quite frankly sendĀ one to sleep.

Arsenal are a team that has been described as; "young" and "inexperienced" and this has quickly led to people yet again not considering the Gunners for the premier league title. Yes there is an argument that perhaps Mr WengerĀ places a little too much faith in the youthful team, but surely this is not a bad thing? should the man denounce his team and say they have no chance in hell or fill them withĀ confidenceĀ whereby they feel no pressure and play the beautiful football that many today admire?.

To call the Arsenal team "inexperienced" is quite naive, it gives the impression that the team is full of twelve year oldsĀ who have only played football in a park. In everyĀ game the players gain experience which will help them in the future. Take the 2007/08 season where Arsenal were 4 points behind winners Manchester United and 1 point behind runners up Chelsea. For most of the season Arsenal were leading but when it came the "business" part of the season they choked, thus failed to maintain their lead. Inexperience was not the reason for this, rather the lack of depth in the team and perhaps the horror injury to Eduardo which shook plenty of the players.

Important players such as Alexandr Hleb and and Mathieu Flamini who have departed this summer will certainly be missed, but that is not to say that Arsenal will just roll over and not make a real attempt to win the league. Who honestly and i mean honestly would have thought Flamini would have such a good season? a player such as Denilson or Diaby could easily have a good season. As for Hleb, yes he was very good with the ball but scored only 5 goals in the 07/08 season. What I am getting at is that Arsenal will move on just like they did when Arsenal great, Thierry Henry left the club at the end of the 2006/07 season.

New faces have joined Arsenal and perhaps more players will arrive before the transfer window closes. Arsenal play beautiful, attacking football and like Wenger i believe this will prevailĀ and help Arsenal challenge for the Premier League. However standing in the way of the North London football club winning the premier league for the first time since 2004 are 19 other clubs, noticeably Liverpool, Manchester United and Chelsea, who help Arsenal create what is known as the big four.

I predict this season to be very tight, but i will go with the Gunners to shock many and win. I mean it is bound to happen sooner or later so why not sooner? I see a young hungry team with a lot to prove.
