Los Angeles Lakers: All-Time Starting Lineup
Here is the all time lineup of the Los Angeles Lakers:
All Time Starting Lineup:
PG: Magic Johnson:
The greatest point guard to ever play the game and the greatest team player in the history of the league. He has career averages of 19.5 ppg, 11.2 assists, over seven rebounds and two steals while shooting 52% from the field for a guard.
He won five rings in the greatest era of all time (the 80's), made nine finals appearances, won three straight MVP awards, made the all star team 12 times and won two all star game MVPs.
He and Larry Bird rejuvenated the NBA when popularity was dipping in the late 70's and he has the greatest performance of all time against the Sixers in the 1980 Finals. In Game Six without league MVP Kareem Abdul Jabbar (out due to severe ankle injury), he played center and scored 42 points, grabbed 15 rebounds and had seven assists. Oh by the way, he was still a rookie.
SG: Jerry West:
One of the greatest all around guards of all time. He was one of the greatest scorers of all time (27 ppg in career), passers (around seven assists per game in career), rebounders (around six per game in career) and defenders (averaged an amazing 2.6 steals per game in last season; first season he played in when steals were recorded).
On top of that, he is usually regarded as one of the most clutch players of all time (won 1969 Finals MVP when his Lakers lost to the Celtics because he averaged over 40 ppg in the series) and he is the logo of the NBA.
SF: Kobe Bryant:
One of the most talented players to ever play the game. He is one of the greatest offensive players of all time and one of the greatest perimeter defenders of all time. He has career averages of 25 ppg, over five rebounds and around five assists while averaging 1.5 steals.
He has won two scoring titles, made the all star team 10 times, won an MVP award, won two all star game MVPs and made eight all-defensive teams already and he still hasn't turned 30 yet. He has also won three championships and made the Finals five times. Finally, he is already regarded as one of the most clutch players of all time.
PF: Kareem Abdul Jabbar:
Kareem is the most accomplished player of all time by far. He has scored the most points of all time, is third all time in rebounds and blocked shots, second in games played and he has won the most MVP awards (six) and made the all star team the most times (19).
He won an incredible six championships and made the finals an amazing 10 times. He was also recently voted as the greatest college player of all time as he won three NCAA championships at UCLA under legendary coach John Wooden and compiled an unheard college record of 88-2.
He also won three most outstanding player awards in college. Finally, he also had the most unstoppable offensive weapon of all time, the sky hook which is an indefensible shot because no one can block it.
C: Wilt Chamberlain:
Wilt is the most dominant force to ever play the game. He has career averages of 30 ppg, 23 rpg and 4.4 apg. Blocked shots weren't recorded in his career, but if they were it is safe to say he averaged around 4-5 bpg. He won four MVP awards in his career, two championships, seven scoring titles and even an assist title.
He also had the greatest statistical season by far in the 1961-1962 season when he averaged over 50 points, around 26 rebounds and averaged an unbelievable 48.5 minutes per game.
All Time Second Team:
PG: Gail Goodrich
Goodrich is one of the greatest guards of all time. He has career averages of 18.6 ppg, 4.7 apg, 3.2 rpg and 1.3 steals while shooting 45.6% from the field and over 80% from the free throw line.
Goodrich was the leading scorer of the legendary 1971-1972 Lakers team which won 33 straight games and 69 total games. He was also a five time all star and won two national championships at UCLA in 1964 and 1965. He also scored 42 points in the 1965 national championship game against favored Michigan which was a record at the time.
SG: Elgin Baylor:
Baylor is probably the most underrated player of all time. He has amazing career averages of 27.4 points per game, 13.5 rebounds per game and 4.3 assists per game. He was one of the first athletic showmen in the NBA as he had tremendous length, size and athletic ability.
He made the all star team 11 times (every year of his career), won the 1959 Rookie of the Year award and scored over 23,000 points in a short career due to injuries. Unfortunately, he never won an NBA championship as his Lakers repeatedly lost to the more deep and talented Celtics in the 60's.
SF: "Big Game" James Worthy:
Worthy was a key member of the greatest team of all time, the 1980's Lakers. He fit perfectly with the uptempo team and lead guard Magic Johnson as he had electric speed and is one of the greatest finishers of all time. He made the all star team seven times, won one finals MVP award (1988) and won three championships with the Lakers.
He has career averages of 17.6 ppg, 5.1 rpg, three assists per game while shooting a great 52% from the field. Finally, he was his best when it mattered most during the playoffs. He had a dominant playoff run in 1988 when he averaged 25 ppg and seven rebounds during the 1988 playoffs.
PF: George Mikan:
Mikan was the first dominant center in the history of the league. He was the center of the first dynasty in the league with the Minneapolis Lakers as they won five championships in the 40's and 50's.
He has career averages of 23 points and 13.4 rebounds. He made the all star team four times and led the league in scoring in his first three seasons. He was a member of the 1st team all NBA team five times and won an all star game MVP award in the 1952-1953 season.
C: Shaquille O'Neal:
Shaq was the most dominant force in the leagueĀ over the lastĀ 15 seasons. Combined with amazing size, strength and athletic ability, he dominated he league for over a decade. He has career averages of 25.2 points per game, 11.2 rebounds per game, 2.4 blocks and 2.7 assists while shooting an amazing 58.1% from the field.
O'Neal made the all star team 14 times, won four championships, three finals MVP awards, a regular season MVP award and two all star game MVP awards. He has scored over 25,000 points in his career and grabbed nearly 12,000 rebounds over his career.
These are the two lineups of the all time Lakers in my opinion. What do you guys think? Do you agree or disagree?
