Sources: Eagles Close to Deal with Westbrook
At last!
One day before the Eagles' first scheduled preseason game against the Pittsburgh Steelers on August 8, the Eagles may at last have taken care of one potential problem (that's if reports are true) by offering Brian Westbrook the money he asked for trhis off-season.Ā
While nothing is official yet, several written sources point to the Eagles and Westbrook at last coming to an agreement.
Said Westbrook Wednesday in relation to a new contract: "Things are going well."
A possible holdout wasn't completely ruled out by Westbrook, considered by many a Top Three running back in the league.
"It's not something I've given much though to," Westbrook said.
Westbrook, however, was optimistic that a deal would get done before the Eagles-Steelers match up, although the possibility of that not happening would put Westbrook at potential risk for injury, thereby giving the advantageous position in contract negotiations to Eagles' management.
Earlier in the off-season, Westbrook fired his agent and hired Todd France in an effort to show that he meant business in asking for a new contract.Ā Lito Sheppard did the same just days earlier, hiring high-profile agent Drew Rosenhaus, although Sheppard likely won't be getting a new contract any time soon and will probably be traded after this season.
Westbrook had a franchise-record 2,104 yards from scrimmage last season, the most of any players in the league.Ā He also had 12 touchdowns.
