An Embarrasment To The Olympic Games?

Just when it seemed all the worlds problems would go away for two weeks, we have us here a blatant act of offence from the USA cycling team.

And yet, people in the United States wonder why everyone hates you?

Personally I love America and the people but its thing like this that make people hate the USA.

The U.S. athletes who arrived at the Beijing airport wearing face masks were identified on Wednesday as four track cyclists.

A USA Cycling spokesman confirmed the identity of the four as Jennie Reed, Sarah Hammer, Bobby Lea and Michael Friedman who are all cyclists who compete indoors.

This 'saga' happened as the U.S. team arrived to pick up their baggage and were spotted wearing the masks, INDOORS! Surely the air in Beijing airport is clean enough to breath without a face-mask, sources state that the four athletes were the only people in the entire airport besides some members of staff wearing the masks.

It was a completely unnecessary and unwanted stab at the Chinese officials and organizers of the games.

However this is not the first kind of arrogance from the USA with regard to the Olympic games. Dwayne Wade of the Miami Heat and on the roster of the USA Basketball team said he had already planned his gold medal party and parades.

I'm a huge fan of Wade but surely you have to actually win something before you can even think of planning your celebration party? The fact that the USA have not won the Basketball competition since 2000 in Australia also gives the impression that they believe they can walk in and beat the likes of Argentina, Spain and the hosts China as if it were the 16-0 New England Patriots vs 10-6 The New York Giants! Oh wait a minute that didn't quite work out as planned.

Maybe its just better if everyone kept their mouths shut for two weeks and enjoy the spectacle that is the Olympic Games and let that be the talking point, not the controversy surrounding the greatest show on Earth.
