The first reason that the University of Florida Gators will win the SEC East is that they have multiple Heisman candidates and the most explosive offense in the league.

Tim Tebow was the first 20-20 touchdown scorer in the history of college football—and he isn't even their big play man.  When the Gators need a big play, who do they call on?  Percy Harvin.

Percy had the second highest yards per catch ratio in the SEC for a wide receiver—but not only can he catch, he can run too.  He had multiple big runs for touchdowns.  The counter play to Percy Harvin is one of the most unstoppable plays in college football today.

The offense will do what it does, but the defense this year will hold its own against any team in the league.

Three starters from the last year's secondary return, and they each have improved. The pass defense was the Gators' downfall last season, but with the two corners and the free safety returning, this unit should be much improved and overall help the Gator D.

The other strong suit of the Gators this year will be their D-line.  This line could be equally as good as that of the 2006 team.

On one end they have Jermaine Cunningham, who returns from a solid year where he had 6.5 sacks.  He has improved this offseason this well.  On the other end, Gator fans are looking forward to Carlos Dunlap.  He is a defensive end equipped with both size and speed and is a freakish athlete.

Last on the line is the one person Urban Meyer can't stop talking about—a 315-pound defensive tackle by the name of Omar Hunter.  He could stop the entire middle by himself with his size, but don't overlook his speed—for his size, he can fly.

Finally, there is the Gators' best player and the person who looks to be their defensive MVP: Brandon Spikes.  Coming off a 131-tackle season, which was second best in the SEC, Spikes will be the heart and soul of this defense and will be a huge leader on and off the field.

With the talent on this Gator team, how can any team beat them?  Not Georgia, LSU, or any team you throw at them.  No team is equally as equipped as the Gators on both offense and defense.

  1. Informative, but you NEED to edit and spell check. (example equipt = equiped).

    1. It's actually "equipped" but who's counting?

But yeah he's right Kyle, spell check is your friend. Embrace it, use it, love it. I have!

    2. that was a typo.

  2. You have some points here, but your style could use some work. Are you trying to be informative? Are you trying to talk up the team? It seems like at some points you want to be one and other times you want to do the other.

Keep at it; you'll get better with practice. Everybody does. In the meantime, seek out the best writers on this and other sports sites and try to figure out what makes the best the best. Then try to adapt those techniques into your own voice and style. Welcome to Bleacher Report!

  3. WRONG WRONG WRONG! Georgia will pound them just like last year. Tebow will cry again. What a baby!

  4. There is a good chance that UF will win the SEC East. But calling them "most explosive offense in the league" may be up for debate. I think you have as much as a hard-on for Tebo as ESPN does... :)

It's going to be a crazy year nonetheless. I don't know about you guys, but I am going nutts waiting for this season.....

  5. Have you guys read the latest injury report update? It's enough to have me concerned. Percy Harvin is still not 100% recovered and not up to speed yet.... Cornelius Ingram questionable with his ACL, Omar Hunter seems to have aggrevated his back, Jeff "speedster" Demps limped off on one of the last practices, CHris Rainey aggrevated a groin (from track mts ago). Not to mention we lost about 5 safeties which we are now looking to supplement (I hope Will "the thrill" Hill gets the safety spot).
If CI is sideline for the rest of the season, then Dan Mullen will have to rewrite his 2 tight end set plays to accomodate for one. I hope our guys are healthy by the time Gators SEC schedule starts.
