Sergio Mora vs. Shane Mosley: Why the Latin Snake Will Bite
In just two weeks time, former lightweight, welterweight, and super welterweight champion Sugar Shane Mosley will be making his his return to the ring following a disastrous performance at the MGM GRAND last May against Floyd Mayweather.
This time, though, Mosely will not be facing a big-name opponent like Floyd. No, he will be facing a great fighter with no star power as of yet. The man he will be facing is The Latin Snake, Sergio Mora.
In case you are not familiar with Sergio Mora, he is the former WBC middleweight champion. He first won the title facing a great fighter who was taken from us too soon, Vernon Forrest. Forrest was an excellent boxer and he too had faced Shane Mosley, beating him twice while almost stopping him in their first bout.

Sergio Mora is the winner of the very first season of the hit TV show The Contender. He won that show by beating Peter Manfredo Jr in the final bout of the tournament. While on the show he didn't face the best opposition. After the show, however, he went on to have a very successful career, going 22-1. Mora's only loss came in a rematch with Vernon.
At this point, you might be thinking: Who is Sergio Mora? Why should I care about this fight when Mosely is just gonna mop the floor with this guy?
Well, you may be wrong. Remember, Mora fought at middleweight and was good enough to win the title after beating Forrest. Now, I know what you're thinking—Forrest was old.
True, but Mosley is no spring chicken.
If that is not enough to persuade you from picking Mosley for the win, consider that Mora only has six knockouts in his 22 wins. While it may sound like a negative, it means he wins by outboxing his opponents.
Again, I know what your thinking—Mosely just has to connect with one big shot and it's over.
I assure you that's not the case.
When former middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik was looking for an opponent to defend his title against, three names came to the table—Paul Williams, Sergio Martinez, and Sergio Mora. Pavlik ended up fighting Sergio Martinez after pulling out of the fight with Mora.
Why would he do that?
In my opinion, Pavlik realized he was facing a great boxer who could prevent him from landing his straight right. His team realized that if he could not land one big punch he would not be able to outbox Mora.
Shane Mosley is a great fighter only when he faces guys who come forward in a straight line and drop their hands to throw power shots.
The Latin Snake is not that type of fighter.
Shane Mosley, and his fans, are in for a surprise on the 18th if that is what they are expecting.
