Brett the Jet? Long Time Packers Quarterback Traded to New York Jets
Brett Favre has been traded to the New York Jets. Yes that Brett Favre. Yes those Jets.
The Brett Favre thrill ride has come closer to ending. Brett was traded to the Jets just before Midnight EST. The exact details of the trade have not yet been revealed. Although according to ESPN and the NFL Network it appears that an incentive laden escalating draft pick is included. The incentive rely on how many snaps Brett receives for the Jets and how far they go in the playoffs. While it appears that Brett Favre will take all the snaps for the Jets, the playoffs still remain questionable.

This move solidifies the quarterback position for the Jets. Let's face it when healthy Chad Pennington has been good quarterback. But his history of shoulder injuries greatly detracts from his performance. With the addition of Favre, the Jets have a proven QB who holds the majority of the meaningful records for QB's. That includes the most consecutive starts. The only question is which version of Brett Favre are they getting. Are they getting the Brett from last year, or the Brett from two years ago? That remains to be seen.
This also cures the Packers from the Brett Favre disease that has stricken the team ever since Favre hinted that he wanted to come back. At first it seemed the Packers would have been happy to have Brett come back for one more season to mentor Aaron Rodgers.
Then Favre decided that he was going to stay retired. Then he wanted to come back again. Then he decided that he really wanted to stay retired. Then he committed to returning.
By this time though, the Pack had committed to Rodgers as their QB for '08. They took Brett Favre back only because Roger Goodell approved his request for reinstatement. Brett was in Packers camp for all of one day. He left camp early on Tuesday to return to Mississippi. Then he was traded to the Jets.
For awhile we had been hearing that if Brett was going to be traded, it would be to either the Jets or the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Brett wanted to go to the Bucs. But the Jets made the better offer in the end.
This certainly has been a thrill ride to forget. So many hard feelings on both sides. One is a living legend that cannot give up the game he loves. The other is storied franchise that finally had enough of the living legends antics.
So for now, this thrill ride seems to be coming to an end. We'll see how close to the end we are we Brett Favre reports to Jets training camp.
It can't get any worse than it has, right?
