Best Action No Action? Not In The Rangers Case This Year
The Texas Rangers have once again chosen the wrong direction on which way to go at the trading deadline. Yes it has been over with for a while, but I can not see how the Rangers could be content with their current situation.
With the highest team ERA in the Major Leagues the decision to not make a move for starting pitching and try to force themselves into a position to win the wild card is a huge mistake. With an additional arm in the rotation the Rangers could have moved Scott Feldman to the bullpen to help out with a clearly over worked staff. They had the pieces to at least make a minor move to stabilize things a little bit, with an abundance of catching why not move a couple of them?

2020 MLB Re-Draft โฎ๏ธ

Sox Eyeing Offensive Help โ๏ธ
Gerald Laird's value is high at the moment with the way that he is playing and he could have fetched a nice prospect at the least. Other players such as Milton Bradley have extremely high values and could bring in much needed help, but Jon Daniels chose to do nothing to help out this season. It would also make sense that if Daniel's is not going to try and make a run at something this year, why not try and build for the years to come?
Daniels did neither though. With before mentioned players such as Laird and Bradley, along with other players such as Vincente Padilla, Eddie Guardado, and Jamey Wright having good seasons it would make sense to move them and gain pieces to help the Rangers meager pitching match up with their mighty offense. I guess after so many years of refusing the learn from their mistakes the Rangers are still refusing to learn from their mistakes!
Pitching wins championships, that is the plain and simple truth about baseball. If a team does not have a solid rotation with at least a decent bullpen they are in no way in contention for anything.
Imagine if you will if the Rangers had not the worst team ERA in the league, but if they were just average. If the Rangers had just a middle of the road, run of the mill, decent pitching staff then we could really be talking about how the Rangers have something special going this year.
The fact that we have started ten different rookies on the mound this year is a sign that we are progressing in our farm system, but there is another negative side to that too. It means that we do not have an adequate staff that is already capable of pitching in the Majors full time. If the Rangers are to actually be able to compete in the stacked American League they are going to have learn to pass on deals such as John Danks for Brandon McCarthy and Chris Young and Adrian Gonzalez for Adam Eaton, Termell Sledge and Aki Otsuka, and they are going to have to pull the trigger on deals such as the opportunity to bring in a true ace like C.C. Sabathia when the opportunity arises.
