Tricks With Mirrors

All is quiet on the Favre front.  As of 06:15pm EDT, Brett Favre is "technically" still a Green Bay Packer.

The reports out of Tampa Bay late last night that boasted Brett Favre would be traded by Wednesday have been fruitless to this point.

New information has come to light about the New York Jets positioning themselves as a major player in the Favre sweepstakes.  Sources from ESPN and NFL.com have eluded to a "biding war" that has emerged.

In this nightmare circus we have learned that what is said and what is done are two different things.

The Green Bay Packers have told us they would accommodate Favre, only to complicate him. The Packers have said they would listen to Favre, only to ignore him. Lastly, they said they would have a plan for him, and they didn't.

Why now should I believe that the Packers will trade him to the popular team of Brett's choice?  They refused Minnesota and after all they hold the ultimate decision as to where he goes.  So why should I believe this to be true and not a charade to Brett and the public?

Right now the only thing that has been consistent is Favre's desire to play in the NFL this year.  His desire may be turning to desperation as he urgently recognizes the need to report to camp immediately.

Favre's agent, James "Bus" Cook, confirmed the Buccaneers and the Jets were the only two teams with interest in Favre at this point.

From viewing how the Packers have handled matters thus-far, I sincerely hope Brett realizes that at this point it seems anywhere he may find comfort and happiness may be the exact reason he doesn't end up there.

A trade can happen at any point in the next 24 - 48 hours.  I wouldn't be surprised if it happens sooner and the team that wins is the Jets.

The New York Jets have invested a tremendous amount of money this off-season closing the areas of deficiency they posses.  The Jets have the money, and a better bargaining angle to offer the Packers.  In this realm it's a business move purely and not so much for a person's best interest.

Don't be surprised if this trade happens.  If so, it would be done with tricks and mirrors, and as far as things have gone so far; it's par for the course.
