Much Like the Energizer Bunny, The Favre Saga Keeps Going and Going and Going
Will he or won't he?
That's the question on the minds of all the sports media this week. Will Brett Favre play in the NFL this year? ESPN, with its minute-by-minute coverage, is treating this like it's a hostage situation or the arrival of a foreign dignitary. This "situation" is enough to drive a man to drink.
I guess the Yankees and Red Sox aren't playing each other this week, as the "World-wide Leader" is actually covering something ELSE. With NFL training camps in full force and pre-season games starting on Thursday, aren't there more pressing things to talk about?

2025 Draft Picks Ready For Leap 🐸

Jaguars' Hypothetical Alvin Kamara Trade Offer
Aaron Rodgers is under enough pressure attempting to replace a legend without said legend breathing down his neck. Reports today suggest that Favre is in talks with Tampa Bay to become their quarterback with the New York Jets as a dark horse destination. Green Bay management reportedly gave Favre several opportunities to renounce his retirement stance and were rebuffed at every turn.
The Packers went ahead and selected two quarterbacks in April's draft thus moving on from "the Favre era." But as training camp approached Favre apparently got "the itch" to play again.
Or did he? After the coaching staff committed to Rodgers and tailored a lot of the playbook to his unique abilities, Favre decided to make a comeback.
Favre has gone back and forth on this more than a politician changes opinions due to poll results close to election time.
I believe that Packer management handled this as well as possibly could be expected. Had Brett decided in March or April or even given an inkling of his desire to play again, I'm sure the Pack would have found a way to appease him.
But by waiting until weeks before camps started, he has brought major distraction to at least one and possibly two more teams as they ready themselves for the upcoming season.
Do I think Favre has at least one more good season up his sleeve? Probably. But, at some point you need to step aside and let the next generation have its day in the sun.
The Packers want to find out what they have in Rodgers, who has had only mop-up duty to show what he can do. Favre is the best quarterback in the Jets or Bucs camp the minute he steps on the practice field. But who knows if that will even happen?
If it does, I might miss it as I comb the TV listings for that "elusive" Yankees/Red Sox match-up. As it is I will sum this all up with three heartfelt words: GO AWAY BRETT!!!
