Fantasy Football 08: Ranking The Top 10 At Each Position

John FerriolaAug 4, 2008

Here is my top 10 rankings for all the positions. Please feel free to leave me comments and discuss.

QB

1. Tom Brady - I don't think he is going to throw for 50 tds again but I think that 40 tds is very possible and I don't see anyone taking his number one spot on the qb list.

2. Tony Romo - Romo had a huge year last year but it went unnoticed because of the record season of Brady. The loss of Terry Glenn hurts a little bit but he was often injured anyway and Patrick Crayton might be better than Glenn at this point anyway.

3. Peyton Manning - Manning had surgery to remove a bursa sac in his knee. He has been an iron man but this injury worries me just a little bit. He normally would be in the number 2 spot but since he had this surgery I moved him down slightly. Getting Marvin Harrison back healthy will help out Mannings cause a lot.

4. Drew Brees - Brees has had many doubters in his career. He isnt the biggest guy and doesnt have the strongest arm but he gets the job done. The acquistition of Shockey really helps him out because he likes to dump it off to a safety valve. Another year under Meachems belt should also help out Brees.

5. Derek Anderson - Anderson came out of nowhere last year to shock the fantasy world. I think he's a mainstay for years to come. He has plenty of weapons at Cleveland with Edwards, Stallworth and Winslow. Also he has Brady Quinn breathing down his neck and the only way he keeps him on the bench is by playing good.

6. Carson Palmer - Palmer is very comfortable with Chad and TJ. They form at great threesome that should have many TD's this year. Hopefully Chad will keep his mouth shut and they can put up some big numbers.

7. Ben Roethlisberger - Big Ben had a very nice year last season and looks to build upon that. This year i think Santonio Holmes becomes his go to guy. Big Ben has a lot of options while throwing the ball with Holmes, Ward, Miller but i think they Steelers are going to go back to the run a bit more this year with Fast Willie and Mendenhall.

8. Donovan Mcnabb - Problem wit Donnie Mac has and always will be health. When he plays he puts up numbers worthy of top 5 QB. I think this year he has something to prove with Kevin Kolb bearing down on him. As long as he stays healthy he could be a steal in the later rounds.

9.Matt Hasselbeck - Hasselbeck had to throw a lot more than expected last year with the massive decline of Shaun Alexander. This year the team has brought in TJ Duckett and Julius Jones and would like to get back to pounding the ground game. This will cut into Hasselbecks numbers slightly but he is still a good option for fantasy.

10. Brett Favre- With all the talk of Favre coming back I have been blinded(haha) I believe he will beat out Aaron Rodgers and take back his starting spot. He has all the tools to succeed in Green Bay and can still sling the rock.

RB

1. Adrian Peterson - I think the time has come when the torched must be passed and i think this is the year it happens. Peterson is a flat out stud! If he didn't have any injury concerns he would be the absolute clear cut number one draft pick. His ceiling is so high that I think taking him number one overall is the way to go!!

2. LT - Lt has been great for many years and i dont think this year will be any different but his knee problem in the playoffs makes me worry that all the miles are starting to catch up to him. This year he might be asked to do a little too much with Michael Turner departing to Atlanta.

3. Joseph Addai - Addai had 15 total TD's last year and i think he can and will improve on that number. Manning has had his operation I think the colts will lean more on the run and let Mr Addai run wild.

4. Brian Westbrook - Westbrook is a ppr league stud. He runs well and he might even catch better. He would be in the top 3 if his past injury history didn't cloud him. Either way he is still a top 5 Rb and a great player.

5. Steven Jackson - Sjax is holding out right now but i think he will get a deal done and become great this year. It has been a couple years in the making where everyone thinks he takes that giant step forward into the elite rb class and I think this is the year he does that. He is an injury risk but his talent far outweighs that.

6. Marion Barber - He has been a TD machine in his first 2 years. My thoughts here are more carries = more TD's. This brusing back has a nose for the endzone and you wont want to miss out on him. He should be running with leads a lot in Dallas.

7. Frank Gore - Mike Martz is the new O-coordinator in SF and looks to turn Gore into a Marshall Faulk clone. Gore has decent hands so he should increase his stats but the qb play of SF worries me. Faulk had Warner and Bulger , Gore doesn't have anyone even close to comparison.

8. Clinton Portis - Many teams are going with the running back committee so it is important to get one that is not in a committee. Portis will have another good year and might even improve on last year as long as he stays healthy.

9. Marshawn Lynch - Lynch quietly had a very very good rookie year. This year he should exceed last years stats and become a good fantasy back for  years to come.

10. Larry Johnson - Grand ma ma was having a nice year last year until he suffered and injury. He has logged a ton of carries over the last few years and many worry about that but he is the teams feature back and when healthy he is a fantasy standout. QB play worries me a little bit in KC but i think LJ could bounce back and be a fantasy steal this year.

WR

1. Randy Moss - Moss just like Brady will not match his record setting year but I still think that he will have the best year from the WR position.

2. Terrell Owens - Even at his ripe old age he still puts up numbers year after year. He and Romo have a very good chemistry and he should have another outstanding year.

3. Braylon Edwards - Braylon burst onto the scene last year with a tremendous year. I think this year he could maybe catch 20 TD's if he avoids injury that's how much I like him.

4. Reggie Wayne - Reggie has been so consistent over the last few years that you know what your going to get with him. 1400 yards and 10 TD's is almost etched in stone. As long as Manning is healthy he can reach those numbers and possibly surpass them.

5. Steve Smith - With Jake Delhomme back in the saddle Smith's numbers should inflate back up to what people have been expecting. Delhomme looks at Smith on just about every single passing play so he will always get the ball. Only set back with Steve is that he has been suspended for the first two games of the season.

6. Andre Johnson - Andre is a big play waiting to happen. He has size and speed and is the total package. He just cant seem to stay healthy. If he plays all 16 games 15 td's isn't out of the question.

7. Larry Fitzgerald - Fitz might have the best hands in the NFL. If he was on any other team he would probably be higher up but he has to share the ball with Anquan Boldin. That wont stop him from getting his.

8. Marques Colston - This 7th round steal out of Hofstra has been a fantasy stud since his rookie season and his TE eligibility(depending on what site you played on) The addition of Shockey and the maturation of Meacham should take a lot of pressure off of Colston. He could post his best stats yet.

9. Torry Holt - Holt is getting up there in age but is still one of the top Wr's in the game. If Bulger can stay healthy all season long this could be a very good year for Torry.

10. TJ Houshmandzadeh - all that talking by Chad Johnson has propelled Housh to the teams number one receiver. Carson Palmer is sick of Chad's mouth and will probably look to Housh more because of it.

TE

1. Jason Witten - Witten has over taken Gates for the number one spot due to the uncertainty of recovery time from his injury. Witten is one of Romo's favorite targets and should continue to be one of the top tight ends.

2. Antonio Gates - Gates would be on top of this list if it wasnt for a late season injury to his foot. He has revolutionized the tight end position and barring any set backs from his injury should be one of the top tight ends in the league again.

3. Kellen Winslow - Famous for his "I'm a Solider" rant and moto accident, Kellen has become one of the best tight ends in the league. With defenses keying in to stop Braylon Edwards it should open up many seams for him.

4. Tony Gonzalez - Tony G can still flat out play. He stays in great shape and will remain a great safety valve for whoever is the KC Qb.

5. Jeremy Shockey - His trade to the Saints has boosted his value signifigantly. He has had Sean Payton as a coach before and won ROY. Also Brees loves finding his tight end.

6. Chris Cooley - This pro bowl tight end should have another good year in Jim Zorn's west coast offense.

7. Dallas Clark - Clark exploded last year to have a really nice season. Peyton Manning will play this season I am sure and he will find Clark often.

8. Heath Miller - Heath is one of Big Ben's favorite targets in the red zone. He could make the leap to tight end elite this year.

9. Vernon Davis - Davis has all the tools to succeed he just hasn't yet. Mike Martz will find ways to get this freak of nature the ball and he could have a huge year.

10. Alge Crumpler - Vince Young loves to go to his tight ends. Alge is the best one he has had yet and probably is the teams best receiver as well. I look for Alge to have a very nice bounce back year.
