Thumping Victory

It all started once again. The 38 match journey towards the Premier League title kicked off for Chelsea against newly promoted West Brom at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea have been the most successful team when it comes to the opening day results with grabbing 28 points out of possible 30 in last ten season. Only time we failed to win on opening day was against Newcastle in 2001.

But it was not going to happen this time. Blues were determined to go for all the 3 points after their bit disappointing pre-season and they had the point to prove and they did not disappoint Stamford Bridge faithfuls. Previous record against opponents was pretty one sided, we clinching all the points in 8 matches.

Despite the result, the match was all about blending all the players into the action and coming to the fitness level up to the mark. and we succeed in it.

  Goal summary -

  Malouda (5, 90)

 Drogba (45, 55, 67)

 Lampard (62)

  Substitutions -

  Ferriera - Ivanovic (59')

  Lampard - Benayoun (64')

  Drogba - Kalou (69')

  Player Ratings -

Cech - 7 - Had a real easy game. Nothing troublesome. We could have won the match even he wasn't at the goal post.

Ferriera - 6 - Probably the weakest link in the squad. Not upto the mark. Was pretty slow. couldn't provide crosses.

Terry - 7 - Its not his fault for this rating but he also didn't have much to do other than 2-3 half chances created by West Brom.

Alex - 7 - Filling the vacancy of Carvalho in the CB position, he seemed comfortable with his job. Cleared one attack with ease. Was in good partnership with Terry.

 A. Cole - 8 - Had a whole left flank to wander without having to worry about the defensive duties. was in good sync with Malouda when it came to attacking.

Mikel - 7 - Was little bit off camera for almost all the match. Successfully didn't make any back-passes to worry about. But When it came to going forward, he was nowhere. Might be losing his place next weekend in order to play Ramires.

Essien - 9 - The "summer signing" was eager to play and was everywhere on the field. Was good in passes, Shooting. when it came to attacking he was the real threat and at the same time was also available for defensive duties. Totally all-round performance.

Lampard - 8 - As always he was everywhere. Had established good pairing with Essien and managed to score one goal.

Malouda - 8 - With his new hairstyle, looked fresh. Created couple of good chances and continued his last season's form this time and in the process scored couple of goals.

Anelka - 7 - Sometimes I forgot what is his actual position. Instead of being at the striking position he was all over in the mid-field. Nothing special about his performance.

Drogba - 9 - Scoring his third hat-trick in Chelsea shirt, and back t back in premier league, (last was against Wigan on last day of the league). DiMatteo must have thanked the god that he was immediately subbed after his 3 goal drama otherwise he would have been on the score-sheet once again.

Benayoun 5 - Made his official Chelsea appearance with nothing to be cheered about. Hardly touch his feet to the balls and was nowhere in the game. It will take little more time to settle him down.

Ivanovic - 6 - Was brought late in the game and had fairly easy task to do which was nothing to do and he did it well.

Kalou - 5 - Also had nothing much to do. Tried to create couple of chances.

 Man Of The Match -

   Of Course Drogba

 Smart Stat -

1 - Lampard is the second player in the list when it comes to scoring on the opening day of the season with scoring 6 goal in the process, only behind Alan Shearer, 8 goals.

2 - 6-0 win was the biggest opening day win by any side in the Premier League Era.
