Bay Winds Blow Manny Away From Boston
Manny Ramirez was a beloved figure in Boston, and his quirky antics, long hair, and classic swing will surely be missed. Sadly Manny will most likely not miss Boston, for some reason Manny felt disrespected by the teams management and wanted to move on. Manny got his wish and now is with the Dodgers he will reside in sunny Los Angeles California where Joe Torre can show him the "LA" lifestyle and the two can go surfing together, do yoga, go shopping together (with small dogs), drive down the strip, or drink wheat-grass together. Although Manny will be missed by Boston Fans, I don't think it'll be to long before they start developing a similar love for their new left fielder, Jason Bay.
Boston Fans were already very welcoming to the Twenty-nine year old outfielder in his first two games. While some fans were still grumbling over the loss of Manny (a guy who didn't want to be in town anyway), most were treated to a breath off fresh air in Bay's first two games. In those games Bay only had two hits in seven at bats, but man did he make the most of them! On the Aug 1 game against Oakland Bay scored both of Boston's two runs in a thrilling 2-1 victory over the Athletics in twelve innings. It was in the twelfth inning that Bay got his first hit with the Red Sox, a towering triple that hit off of Fenway's Green Monster. In his second game with the Sox Jason hit a towering three-run home-run over the Green Monster, proving to all doubters that Bay like Ramirez can get the ball UP and OUT.
While it is true that we'll never see Jason Bay go into the Green Monster, poke his head out, and play around, we will see Jason Bay go out and play baseball, and play baseball good. Jason is nearly six and a half years younger than Manny and is in the prime of his career, while Manny is getting older and on the decline (granted it's a great decline to be on, despite his age he is still one of the best LF in the game, he won't hit 40 HR anymore, but he'll do some heavy damage), so Boston theoretically will get more remaining good seasons from Bay. Management will not have to worry about Jason Bay complaining about not being treated fairly, because for four and a half loosing seasons with the Pittsburgh Pirates Bay never grumbled or demanded he be traded, he just went out every day and did his job. He is the type of player and personality that a fan can look up to. He is the type of guy teammates can take pride in playing next to because they know he's hungry to win, and that he wants to be right there with them stride for stride and through the thick and thin.
He is a ballplayer plan and simple, and BOSTON LOVES BALLPLAYERS.
There's a new wind blowing in from Massachusetts' Bay.
