Fantasy Baseball Top 10 Adds Down the Stretch

Top 5 Hitters to Add

Mike Stanton OF, FLA – 33% owned in ESPN leagues
Category Help – HR, SLG, TB, OBP, RBI

This might be the last week you can grab Stanton because it looks like he is starting to figure it out. 5 for 5 the other night and the power is coming in bunches now. Its not his fault he was rushed to the bigs well before he was ready. But now he is here and got at bats under his belt. Long term he will be a perennial top round pick and keeper for years to come.

Jose Tabata, OF, PIT – 32% owned in ESPN leagues
Category Help – TB, SB, AVG

Acquired from the Yankees in the Xavier Nady / Damaso Marte trade, Tabata was shipped off to the Pirates at his absolute lowest point. A former top 50 prospect a few years ago, the Pirates took a shot that Tabata’s talent would take over and they were right. Although he turned into a speed demon this year, which is nice for fantasy owners, but the Pirates already have McCutchen for that. Tabata is a nice add since he will get plenty of at bats in the next 6 weeks.

Neil Walker 2B, 3B, PIT – 41% owned in ESPN leagues
Category Help – RBI,AVG

Similar scenario on Walker as he was a former top prospect that looked to have fizzled out, but the Pirates called him up and the 2B/3B option is very nice right now. Again, plenty of at bats esp at 2B make him a nice add in NL only leagues.

Coco Crisp OF, OAK – 18% owned in ESPN leagues
Category Help – SB

Crisp is back healthy now and stealing bases for now. Ride him only if you need steals esp in Roto formats.

Jerry Hairston, OF 2B 3B SS, SD – 17% owned in ESPN leagues
Category Help – RBI

Hairston is a nice player to have down the stretch because of the # of positions he plays. Injuries and players wearing down hit all teams and having a guy like Haiston is invaluable because you can plug him in just about anywhere.

Top 5 Pitchers to Add

Jonny Venters SP ATL – 3% owned in ESPN Leagues
Category Help – Holds, ERA, WHIP

Bobby Cox loves to ride his RP arms and Venters has been lights out this year.

Brandon Morrow SP TOR – 41% owned in ESPN leagues
Category Help – K, W, WHIP

Coming off the 17 k performance, Morrow was starting to digress a tad from earlier months. I’ve been on the Morrow bandwagon since earlier in the season when he dominated the Yankees. The stuff has been there, now he is putting it all together. Guys who get the K’s he does are worth holding on to as they usually come around.

Dan Hudson SP ARZ – 6% owned in ESPN Leagues
Category Help – W, ERA, WHIP

Going from the AL Central to the NL West adds to your fantasy value esp when its US Celluar Field. Hudson could be pitching with a purpose right now, as the recent deal of him to the DBacks for Edwin Jackson was a high profile trade.

Gio Gonzalez SP OAK – 24% owned in ESPN Leagues
Category Help – K, W, ERA

Gonzalez showed flashes last year that he could end up being a dominant starting pitcher. The BB’s were too high, and he is starting to settle down. I will always go with the upside arm hoping you get a strong return on your investment over an aging player who is riding a hot streak.

Anibal Sanchez SP FLA – 24% owned in ESPN Leagues
Category Help – W, ERA

Back healthy and in solid form, Sanchez has been a consistent solid starter this year flying under the radar.
