UFC 87: Seek And Destroy the best event of the year

When UFC 87: Seek And Destroy was first announced and the main fight was gonna be Brock Lesnar vs Mark Coleman I was a little disappointed but ever since GSP vs Fitch, Lesnar vs Herring and Huerta vs Florian was announced, I saw the potential for one of UFC's best events. I've been waiting for august 9th for the past months and it's now one week away and I can't wait. I would like to break down the event, talk about the main card, give my pick and my predictions. I would love feedback from fans and remember it's just an opinion, don't tell me I don't know what I'm talking about and instead give me a good reason why you disagree. Ok so let's get going.

Jason "The Athlete" McDonald vs Demian Maia

This should be a great fight and the fighters strategies are simple: for Maia take the fight to the ground, for McDonald keep the fight standing. Jason is actually a very good well-rounded fighter but he can't afford to go to the ground with a world champion in BJJ. Maia is undefeated with 5 of his 8 fights ending via a submission and his standup is clearly his weakness. I feel Demian Maia is still untested against a good Middleweight and his fight against McDonald will be a very good test. If Jason McDonald can keep this fight standing he can possibly win. Unfortunately if it goes to the ground, Maia will have a clear advantage.

My Pick (who I want to see winning): Jason McDonald

Prediction: I think McDonald will do pretty good in this fight, I think he will be able to avoid the submissions and dominate the standup and win by Unanimous Decision.

Rob "The Saint" Emerson vs Manny "The Anvil" Gamburyan

I'm actually really pumped and excited for this fight because I have seen these two fighters evolve on the Ultimate Fighter 5. They were on opposing teams and they didn't like each other too much but they never had the chance to fight on the show, at UFC 87 they finally will. If this fight would have taken place in the house, Manny would have won, but now I think it depends on who evolved the most as a fighter since the end of the show. Honestly, I feel neither fighter really became better since leaving the Ultimate Fighter house, with that said, I think Manvel, like the pitbull he is, will come in, take the fight to the ground and overpower Emerson from there.

My Pick: Rob Emerson

Prediction: Takedowns from Manny and good ground and pound, so Gamburyan by Unanimous Decision.

Brock Lesnar vs "The Texas Crazy Horse" Heath Herring

Ok, I'm a huge WWE fan so I'm also a huge Brock Lesnar fan and his mentality of wanting to fight the best fighters in the Heavyweight division is pretty cool but pretty stupid. It seems Lesnar doesn't want the easy road like Kimbo Slice is taking right now and everybody has to respect that, but it comes with a price. Lesnar needs an adversary like Anthony Hardonk or something like that. Mark Coleman was a great fight for Lesnar, I think he could have won but against Herring? Heath herring is a veteran, he's been fighting for 10 years which is a HUGE advantage against Lesnar and he has fought some top competition. Lesnar will come in strong and do the same he did with Mir, take the fight to the ground and ground and pound, Herring will want to keep it standing and trade which should make for a pretty good slugfest,

My Pick: Brock Lesnar

Prediction: As much as I like Brock and want to see him win, Heath Herring is just too tough an opponent for a rookie like Brock Lesnar. So I think Herring will win, I just have no clue how, I can't imagine this fight will go the distance but I can't imagine Herring knocking out Lesnar.

"El Matador" Roger Huerta vs Kenny "Kenflo" Florian

When I think about this fight, alot of things come to mind, both guys could probably fight each other for hours, they are both well-rounded fighters and this could be the fight of the year. Huerta (6-0 in the UFC) is probably gonna want to strike with Florian (7-2 in the UFC), it's hard to say because Kenny is a dangerous fighter in every position, and I think Florian is the better submission fighter. It's really hard to predict where this fight will go especially since both fighters are so confident they will win. The only thing that helps me decide the winner here is that Roger Huerta seems more hungry for a title fight than "Kenflo".

My Pick: Roger Huerta

Prediction: A really tough decision but Huerta by Unanimous Decision.

Georges "Rush" St-Pierre vs Jon Fitch for the UFC Welterweight Championship

Ok so I'm from Montreal, Quebec and people from Montreal are gonna hate me but I don't mind who wins this fight, I'm a huge fan of both fighters and I think they will have a kickass fight on august 9th. I consider these two fighters to be the best in the UFC today and choosing a winner is impossible for me, I might as well flip a coin. The winner will be the guy who wants it more and who can fight the fight at his pace. I think both guys will have pretty much the same game plan which will be takedowns and ground and pound with a couple of submission attempts.

My Pick: I don't really care Fitch or St-Pierre

Prediction: Like I said it's impossible for me to choose a winner but let's say you have a gun pointed at me and ask me for an answer, I would probably go for GSP.

So this is it, UFC 87: Seek And Destroy one week away and I can't wait. If I look carefully at what I just wrote, we will be seeing alot of fights go the distance and most of the guys I'm voting for will lose. I still think it will be a kickass event and I can't wait to sit back and enjoy the show. Now please give me your opinions on the fights I just talked about, thanks for reading.
