Chris Arreola Is Still the Most Exciting Heavyweight Today

King JAug 10, 2010

Currently in a recession worse than the current United States economy, the heavyweight division lacks the excitement and appeal that wins over the masses.

Many casual fans repeatedly blame the lack of interest in the sport of boxing today on the boring, superstar-less heavyweight division.

Mexican-American top contender Chris Arreola 28(25)-2 is pretty much the only exciting heavyweight left fighting right now, and for the last few years has been the only real chance to bring a heavyweight crown back to America.

Almost a year ago, Arreola was rushed into the biggest fight of his life against the WBC heavyweight champion, big brother Vitali Klitschko, a fight where he fought like a true Mexican warrior standing toe-to-toe with Dr. Iron Fist, only to be stopped in the later rounds.

Arreola, even with two losses now on his record, never ceases to provide an exciting fight. He is always aggressive and comes forward on his opponent. Even though many have criticized his worth ethic in the gym, no one ever criticizes his work ethic in the ring.

Now fighting on ESPN’s Friday Night Fights this Friday, August 13th, maybe Arreola can remind us that he is the true "Nightmare" of the heavyweights, as his moniker declares. Or, on this Friday the 13th, he can be the Jason Voorhees of the division by murdering Manuel Quezada, 29(18)-5, at the Citizens Bank Arena in Ontario outside of his Riverside hometown.

How exciting is Chris Arreola? So exciting that I’ll be watching this fight ringside from the third row. So exciting that, with a big win, we’ll see him back on HBO against another big name in no time. 'Cause everyone loves an exciting fighter who can make fun of himself by calling himself Shrek. If that is not keeping it real, then I don’t know what it is.
