Extra! Extra! Free Fights Read About It!

We as MMAfans have been spoiled in 2008 with so many great free fights. From EliteXC's stellar events to the WEC's which is always free on verses. even the UFC, yes the UFC held a free event this July which headlined Anderson Silva and James Irvin. UFC president Dana White also announced the Promise of anther free event in October.

WEC's Next event should rival any event PPV or free this year holding 3 title fights.

First we have the reigning Middleweight Champ Carlos "The Natural Born Killer" (22-4)Condit defending his title against Tokyo, Japan’s Hiromitsu Miura(9-4). With Condit coming off an impessive submission victory over the "Brainard Brawler" Brock Larson. Miura’s last outing in the WEC cage was KO victory over Blas Avena in March. He brings jaw shattering power and world-class skills with him to the cage. "The Last Samurai" has his work cut out for him if he intends to take Condit’s crown.

Jamie Varner(14-2, 1 NC) Showed the world "The Worm" means business in February when he captured the Lightweight title with a hard fought KO victory over veteran “Razor” Rob McCullough. Varner will have his hands full when he takes on Marcus Hicks (8-0) Has won his last three fights by submission, but has looked to be dominated when on his feet. Varner will want to keep the fight standing if he wants to stop "The Wrecking Ball" and retain his WEC title. If Hicks can get the fight to the ground we may see a new Lightweight Champ.

And last but definitely not least probably one of the most impressive fighters of 2008 stomping his way through the LHW division“All-American” Brian Stann (6-0), the Pennsylvania native who is a retired Captain in the United States Marine Corps awarded the Silver Star for his bravery in battle during the Iraq War, captured the WEC Light Heavyweight title in March with an exciting first round TKO victory over Doug “The Rhino” Marshall. Stannwill look to hold onto his newly crowned title when he gets into the cage with Las Vegas native Steve Cantwell (5-1). Not only is Cantwell lost to Stann in 2007 so this fight carries more than a title its all about redemption. Stannhas not allowed an opponent to take a fight to the second round in his career, we can look for him to continue this trend.

This event takes place AUGUST 3 at 9 P.M. ET/6 P.M. PT, This is the network’s eighth live telecast on Sunday, and a great follow up to Faber Vs. Pulver which was seen by over four million viewers. My personal predictions are that Stann Wins first round TKO, Condit by submission in the 2nd while unfortunately Jamie Varnerwill fall short to the ground game of Marcus Hicks in Rd 2 as well. While of course these are only mere predictions, I can gaurentee this will be another great night for MMA in 2008.
