Twins-White Sox: Chicago Cannot Escape the Dome Of Horrors

Sam BrownJul 31, 2008

I will apologize ahead of time because I am writing this article in the bitter aftermath of yet another nightmarish game for the White Sox in the circus tent that they call a stadium in Minnesota. ย

In what will likely go down as one of the most memorable moments of the season, Ozzie Guillen pulled his team off the field in the bottom of the seventh after a few Twins fans threw their hats onto the field, in a lame imitation of their manager Ron "has never won a pennant" Gardenhire.

At the time, the Sox were clinging to a one-run lead in a game that seemed like it was in their hands just a few innings before. ย

Undoubtedly, we will all have to read the about how Ozzie's antics cost the Sox the game. How his showboating rattled his own pitcher and how he is a buffoon etc...But make no mistake about it.

This loss is on the players. ย

So maybe Guillen overreacted. John Danks may be young, but he's not supposed to pitch like a kid and walk a guy that he is ahead of 1-2. Matt Thornton, once the poster boy for this year's bullpen turnaround, doesn't have to throw a wild pitch and then fall behind hitters and give up bullet shots.

Octavio Dotel, doesn't have to come in and hit the righty he is supposed to get out and then groove a 2-2 fastball down the middle to Jason "should be selling groceries" Kubel.

Never mind that the Sox showed some fight afterward, in the form of a Jermaine Dye two-run blast.

Enter the worst defense the Sox have had since the Jerry Manuel era. ย

Two errors and a few bloop hits later and it's game over for the Sox. Things could be worse. The White Sox managed to escape the circus tent with their hold on first place, however loose it might be. ย

Don't blame Ozzie for this one; blame his relievers, who just look too scared to get anybody out. The Sox better have a big lead by late September when they return to the joke of a stadium that is the Metrodome. ย ย

There are those losses that really get under your skin as a fan. This was one of those games that will stick in your head come October if the Sox are at home watching the playoffs.

And can someone please tell me when the Twins will play in a real stadium like everybody else. ย ย
