Dear Diary: My 2013 Championship Team

Ken KellyJul 28, 2010

The following diary entry will be written in February of 2014. Through the magic of technology (and possibly a hot tub time machine), we take a futuristic (and somewhat ridiculous) look at what the dynasty landscape could be in just a few short seasons.

Dear Diary:

Well, Iโ€™ve finally done it!

I won my dynasty league championship after ten years of hard work and effort. It took lots of trades, analysis, careful planning, and a bit of good luck, but glory is finally mine.

Itโ€™s pretty amazing that it took this long, especially considering all the things that happened in the years before I finally won my title:

1. The Jaguars moved to Los Angeles.
2. Tim Tebow became an epic bust.
3. Dez Bryant = the No. 1 wide receiver in fantasy.
4. The Lions made the playoffs.
5. Al Davis relinquished control of the Raiders, then took it back the next day.

An aging Adrian Peterson again led the league in scoring this year, but he was followed closely by some up and comers. The leaders by position were as follows:

Quarterback

1. Matt Ryan, ATL
2. Aaron Rodgers, GB
3. Matt Stafford, DET
4. Kevin Kolb, PHI
5. Jake Locker, OAK
6. Joe Flacco, BAL

Running Back

1. Adrian Peterson, MIN
2. Chris Johnson, TEN
3. Mark Ingram, TB
4. Ray Rice, BAL
5. LaMichael James, WAS
6. Maurice Jones-Drew, LA

Wide Receiver

1. Dez Bryant, DAL
2. AJ Green, STL
3. Calvin Johnson, DET
4. Larry Fitzgerald, ARI
5. Jonathan Baldwin, CLE
6. DeSean Jackson, PHI

Tight End

1. Jermichael Finley, GB
2. Vernon Davis, SF
3. Jermaine Gresham, CIN
4. Kyle Rudolph, NYG
5. John Carlson, SEA
6. Dustin Keller, NYJ

Iโ€™m looking forward to the offseason for a couple of reasons. The 2014 NFL Draft is coming up here shortly, but it seems I have a Brett Favre issue to address now.

After promising he was done in Minnesota, Brett Favre finally had his number retired in Green Bay at a special ceremony yesterday.

Sadly, it seemed I had finally lost my 44-year old backup quarterback.

All was going to plan until a reporter from the back asked if his new beard left his face with an itch. When he responded by saying, โ€œYes, Iโ€™m getting that itch again,โ€ the speculation started.

After Favre refused to clarify, it looks like weโ€™re in for another long summer in Hattiesburg!

The draft is coming up and I have two of the top four picks. Itโ€™s a pretty easy choice for me. Iโ€™ll obviously be taking two of the four prized running backs:

Dillon Baxter, USC
Marcus Lattimore, South Carolina
Lache Seastrunk, Oregon
Michael Dyer, Auburn

Getting two of those dominant runners will help my chances of repeating next season. I canโ€™t wait for April!

Well, Iโ€™m off to bask in the glory of my title. Hopefully next season will bring me a repeat championship.

If anything, I just hope it goes better than that Terrell Owens and Chad Ochocinco debacle from 2010.

Boy, if the Bengals could have only knownโ€ฆ
