Hot Abreu Helps Yankees Salvage Final Game Against O's
The New York Yankees downed the Baltimore Orioles today, defeating them 13-3 and ending their three-game losing streak.
This afternoon, the Yanks started Joba Chamberlain. He pitched a good game, going six innings, allowed two runs on five hits, walked none, and struck out six.
Dennis Sarfate took the ball for the Orioles. Sarfate went four innings, gave up five runs on two hits, walked three, and struck out five.

The Orioles picked up their first run in the top of the first inning, getting an RBI single from Aubrey Huff to score Brian Roberts.
Down 1-0, the Yankees got three runs in the bottom of the first. Alex Rodriguez singled to score Derek Jeter and Bobby Abreu and Rodriguez moved all the way to third base on a throwing error by Nick Markakis.
The Bombers tacked on their third run in the bottom of the first by a passed ball from Baltimore catcher Guillermo Quiroz, and Rodriguez scored.
The Orioles got another run in the top of the third inning. Markakis singled to center field to score Brandon Fahey and the Yankees led 3-2.
In the bottom of the third, the Yanks got two more runs. Abreu smacked a two-run homer, his 12th of the year,ย off the right field foul pole to give the Yanks a 5-2 lead.
The Yankees added four more runs to the lead in the bottom of the sixth. Jason Giambi hit a check-swing single that traveled all the wayย toย left-center fieldย to score Abreu, andย Xavier Nady hit a ground-rule double to score Giambi.
Thenย with the bases loaded, Johnny Damon walked to score Cano, and Nady scored on a wild pitch by Baltimore reliever Fernando Cabrera.
In the top of the seventh, Yankees' reliever Edwar Ramirez tossed one pitch over the head of Kevin Millar and was immediatelyย thrown out of the game by home plate umpire Mark Wegner. He assumed Ramirez threw at Millar in retaliation from Rodriguez being hit with a pitchย last night. Yankees' skipper Joe Girardi was not happy his pitcher was tossed out of the game.ย
Leading 9-2 in the bottom of the seventh, the Yanks were not done. They came out swinging and scored four more runs in the seventh frame.
Abreu was at it again, smacking yet another home run, his 13th of the year and second of the game. Rodriguez followed him with a solo homer of his own, and hisย 23rd of the year as Abreu and Rodriguez hit back-to-back jacks.
Nady hit another double to score Richie Sexson and pinch hitter Justin Christian, who replaced Damon, singled to score Nady.
With the Yankees up 13-2 in the top of theย eighth, Juan Castro hit his first home run of the year to make it 13-3.
With the Yankees leading by ten, Yanks' pitcherย Dan Giese got Quiroz out to end the game.
Chamberlain picked up the win and is now 4-3 on the 2008 season.
Sarfate lost and is now 4-2 overall.
In trade news today, the Bombers picked up Ivan "Pudge" Rodriguez from the Detroit Tigers in exchange for setupย relief pitcherย Kyle Farnsworth.
The Yankees and their new acquisition will take on the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim tomorrow night at Yankee Stadium atย 7:05 ET.
The Yankees will start Andy Pettitte (12-7, 3.76 ERA). He will be opposed by Angels' starter Jon Garland (9-6, 4.30 ERA)ย ย
