"Hibachi" has done it again. Gilbert Arenas is the modern day Deion Sanders of sports. Young, flashy and now filthy rich! After turning down $126 million and instead settling for $111 million form the Washington Wizards back in June, Gilbert has already started the spending spree.
Arenas has reportedly dropped a cool milli on a new pool for his Washington D.C. home. Equipped with not one, but two grottos. Oh, and what's a pool without a small man-made mountain built right on the side?
Agent Zero has propelled himself to a superstar in the NBA over the past two seasons. Never shy to back down from a challenge, Arenas' swagger has made him a hot topic. After being snubbed from the 2008 U.S. Senior Men's Team that will begin competition in Beijing next week, Arenas expressed his desires to get a little payback against the head coach Mike Krzyzewski for leaving him off the squad.
“One college game, that’s five fouls, right? … 40-minute game at Duke, they got soft rims; I’d probably score 84 or 85. I wouldn’t pass the ball. I wouldn’t even think about passing it. It would be like a NBA Live or an NBA 2K7 game, you just shoot with one person,” Arenas said.
Only Gilbert. Only Gilbert would pledge to torch a bunch of guys who are seven years younger and $111 million less fortunate. I love this guy. He's the ultimate competitor and showman all rolled into one. His trademark of throwing his jersey into the stands after the game has also added to his lore and sparked other ideas that he's shared with the public:
"You know how I always throw my jersey into the stands after a game? In Washington, they just go crazy for it. So in this commercial, that's what I'm gonna do with my shoes. I've just hit a game winner, and I throw these shoes. Everyone starts to react, and you see everything in slow motion. Everyone's pushing, shoving, doing whatever it takes to try to get to these shoes. People from the 400 level, they're jumping off the ledge, they're missing the pile, hitting nothing but chairs, and you can just see in people's faces like, 'Ooooh, that hurt.'
While all this stuff's going on, one of the shoes pops out of the crowd, and a little girl gets it and she takes off. A couple of people see she has it, and they start chasing her, and she's looking back running—and then she gets clotheslined by a kid in a wheelchair. So he picks the shoe up and says—he's gonna have the only line in there—"They said I couldn't get it. Heh. Impossible is nothing." And then he rolls off."
But even better than the off the court antics (such as buying a pool worth more than your entire car collection, nicknaming yourself after the hottest grill on the market or spending a million on your own birthday party) is the on the court showcase that Arenas puts on when he's in the spotlight.
For example, early 2007, Gilbert dumped in three buzzer-beaters in three months time, all three's and all without even looking to see if the ball went in the net. After the release of each game winner, "Hibachi" would instantly head toward the locker room as if each shot was a forgone conclusion!
Also in early 2007, he put the hurt on the Pheonix Suns and their head coach, who is an assistant coach for (who else) the U.S. National Team. After dropping 54 on the Suns, Gil pledged to blaze Portland and their head coach Nate McMillan, who is also an assistant with the National Team.
And how could we forget Gilbert's big night in Hollywood on December 17, back in 2006. Arenas outplayed Kobe Bryant, scoring 60 points to go along with eight rebounds and eight assists, almost single handily willing the Wizards to victory and setting an NBA record for points in an overtime with 16.
Ladies and gentlemen, number one in the art of blowing money and in our hearts, "Agent Zero," "Hibachi," Gilbert Arenas.

Sweet! I'm glad someone wrote this. If you check out my profile, Zero is one of my favorite guys in any sport, and my life has had nothing to do with D.C. or anywhere Gilbert is from.
It was those back-to-the-goal buzzer beaters that, simply put, started my obsession of the Hibachi. I absolutely freakin love this guy. He tells it like it is and is hilarious in the process.
My favorite team is Detroit and i love those guys, but they will never top the Crazy Habachi as my favorite player. I also like him because he's got game, AND he's got more of a brain than half of the league combined. Dude is f'n awesome.
If any body deserves that pool, it's Gilbert Arenas.
If anyone reading isn't a regular of Gilbert's blog, you should check it out. Hilarious: "No one wants to play in Milwauke," Gilbert on Richard Jefferson going to the Bucks. Dude will also spout off on anything from Grand Theft Auto to his father. Good stuff.

You're a Detroit fan and your favorite player is Arenas? Wow, that's a shame. No need to say more than that.
Gotta agree with Matt here, simply wouldn't even glance Arenas' way if I was putting together a team, which is why he's not on the the Olympic team. There are a number of PG's I would take first. Any point guard who's team is playing better without him isn't a particularly good fit. When Nash, Williams, or Paul go down their teams suffer. They create shots for their clubs. Arenas TAKES shots from his club. A big difference.
Arenas' certainly seems to be popular, so I can't say that signing him to big money was a mistake. He fills seats, and his jersey sells in the top ten. However, Washington will never win a title with him as their point. If the object was winning, then his contract was a big mistake, particularly with his array of knee problems. If the object was to perpetuate the love-fest around a middling NBA talent, then it seems to be working.

I thought I made it clear. Gilbert isn't my favorite player simply for his game. It's what kind of person he is. It's his antics. It's the same reason I love Sheed too, although Gilbert has it together a little more than 'Sheed.
It's because out of all the sellfish, deviant and me-first type of talented players there are in the NBA that I love Gilbert. He's one of a VERY FEW that aren't like that and still have amazing game. He comes across as a real guy (even if he does build a giant swimming pool).
I could care less wether Washington won a title. That's not what my comments were about. I just enjoy watching Gilbert and seeing what he has to say. He's one of a kind.
True though. Washington isn't winning a title anytime soon, but I admire Gilbert's dedication to the city and doing his best to try what I think he really believes in. He took a pay cut, something most players wouldn't do, and went out of his way to make sure his buddy Jamison stayed on the team.

Fair enough,
As long as you love Sheed, you're alright! Arenas is undoubtedly colorful and a solid dude. Again, not convinced about his game though. Cheers,

Wow, I think Arenas is a poor man's AI. A guy who looks good and stacks up a lot of stats, but doesn't help you win. I'd take about 6-7 PGs before him.
And snubbed? They want guys who have a position on that team. Not some combo guard who gets over half court and shoots.

No heat feeling!! Hibachi is the best point in the league. Everyone knows that but is because of jealousy that makes them hate him. But hate him or like him, he is the best.

I am a huge wizards fan and gilbert fan. ButIi can attest to the fact that he isn't the best point guard in the league. He's not a true point guard. I'd say he's one of top 5 most talented players in the league, but as far as point guards go...no. The true thing I like about Gilbert is the fact that he draws attention on the court which, in turn, frees up other players on our team. Maybe it's because he's got such a mouth that people pay extra attention to him when he's got the ball, but either way, it works. And if you don't defend him, that's right, he WILL torch you.
Gilbert isn't the best point guard in the NBA by any means. But he's definitely one of the best players.

gilbert arenas? Isn't this the same clown that said jose caldeorn didn't deserve to be an nba all star on the east when he clearly was a top PG in the east? He wasn't the best but he was a top 3 guard in the east hands down and i believe he was number 1 in the east in assists, gilbert said something like "how can a bench player be and NBA all star? Well maybe becasue he wasn't a bench player you idiot he played long before tj ford came back. This guy didnt even know TJ Ford was injured and he's a freaking blogger/nba all star? Kiss my ass arenas

Great article if you are in acult. I love Agent 0 for his work ethic and yes my man did win some big games for the Wiz. However, from a business aspect, I don't see spending 111 mil on a guy who had two knee surgeries in the last year or so. I don't see the wiz getting out of the first round. Management has spent alot of darn money to get the same team that couldn't get pass King James w/ or w/o arenas. I even thought they had a chance b/c they (Cavs) traded away their best players why, I still don't know. I hope the Wiz do well this year and I hope Agent 0 help the team by playing team ball. Hey, for motivation Gil imagine Coach K is coaching every team we play against this year and torch them by playing team ball. We trust you enough to make the big shot now allow us to trust you enough to involve the squad. There's no "I" in "TEAM". It took Money years to figure this out. Lastly, a note for Management, please be more aggressive in getting players or I will be defending you guys forever! I am tired of losing. Hell, if I could play for you guys I will. Give a brotha try-out, you won't be dissappointed.

All of those Gilbert quotes are stale. You make it sound like his quote about Coach K came after he signed his deal this offseason, when in reality he made that quote some time in 2007. Even his anecdote about TV ad concepts is from last year.
Other than the news about the $1M pool, this article is a whole lot of old news. Move along; nothing to see here.

the point of the article is to praise showman's ship. We watch games and pay to see what he does on the court but a true showman gives the fans something positive to talk about off the court, regardless how outrageous or hilarious. Gilbert's comments and thought are no different than Lebron or Tom Brady going on SNL. The only difference is its on going, and a lot more entertaining lol. Afte all even if you hate "Hibachi" you still pay attention to him. people diving from the upper level! LMAO!

Gilbert, needs to be more of a team player. If the wizard wants to get pass the first round of the playoffs. It's one thing to have alot of mouth, it's another to beable to back it up!!!!!!!. I've heard
all his talk put in the end it's the team that end up walking in the first round of the payoffs. Gilbert let
your play do the talking for you. and maybe just maybe you will give your team a change to make it all the way to the title. The TALENT is THERE on your TEAM. However it takes a TEAM to WIN. NOT an E-GO.
